Washburn goes 1 for 2 in MIAA doubleheader with Truman

TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues split an MIAA doubleheader with Truman falling 7-4 in the opener in 10 innings while coming back to take the nightcap 6-1. Washburn (16-23, 3-5 MIAA) will be back in action in another set of conference twinbills when they will take on Pittsburg State on Friday and Missouri Southern on Saturday on the road.

Game 1 - Truman 7, Washburn 4 -- 10 innings

In the opener, Tish Williams led off the game with the first of her two home runs in the first game. Her second home run, the 44th of her career, came in the third inning as Washburn jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs tied the score with two more in the fourth. Truman took a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning, but Washburn knotted the score in the bottom of the inning to keep the game going on a base loaded walk drawn by Katie Duncan scoring Ashley Podschun. Truman scored four runs in the top of the 10th to take a 7-3 lead. The Lady Blues added one in the bottom of the tenth on an RBI single by Maggie West scoring Lindsey Moore. The Lady Blues stranded 13 baserunners in the game and outhit the Bulldogs 11 to 9. Samantha Farris (8-11) pitched the entire game allowing two earned runs.


Game 2 - Washburn 6, Truman 1
Washburn broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the third inning with five runs leading to a 6-1 win to split the series. The Lady Blues' Tish Williams, Lindsey Himpel and Lindsey Moore each had two hits in the win while Moore drove in two runs in the win. Marissa Martin started the inning with a single and moved to third on a single by Williams. A double by Himpel chased home Martin. Williams scored on a sac fly by Dani White. Ashley Podschun then doubled to right scoring Williams. Washburn would add another run in the fifth on a Moore sac fly scoring White. Megan Kimerer (2-0) picked up the complete-game win striking out three scattering six hits.
