OMAHA, Neb. -- The sixth-ranked Lady Blues went on the road and swept Nebraska-Omaha 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) on Tuesday night at Sapp Fieldhouse. Washburn will be back in action on Friday night when seventh-ranked Central Missouri comes to Lee Arena at 7 p.m.
The first set was a back-and-forth battle with Washburn (24-2, 12-2 MIAA) grabbing the lead at 14-13 and pushing the lead to as many as five at 21-16. A 6-1 run by the Mavericks (14-12, 4-10 MIAA) tied the game at 22-22, but the Lady Blues scored the final three points to take the opening set 25-22.
Much like the opening set, Washburn jumped out to an early lead in set two before UNO rallied to grab the lead at 7-6. The set was knotted at 12 apiece, when WU went on a 9-3 run to seize control. The Lady Blues went on to win the set 25-20 and grab a two sets to none lead.
Washburn raced out to an 8-3 lead early in set three, but the Mavericks rallied back to within a point at 9-8. A 10-6 run put the Lady Blues in front to stay at 19-14. The Mavericks rallied late to within 24-22, but Washburn finished off the game on a kill by
Mollie Lacy.
Hillary Hughes led the Lady Blues with 10 kills. Lacy added eight kills, while
Jessica Fey and
Jessica Kopp had seven apiece.
Amanda Guess and
Abby Wittman each recorded double-doubles. Guess had 20 assists and 10 digs, while Wittman had 19 assists and 11 digs.
Molly Smith had a match-high 19 digs.
Natalie Ebke led the Mavericks with 10 kills and 10 digs. Miranda Wisehart had 24 assists and seven digs.
