TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods walked-off with a win in game two of an MIAA doublheader to split with Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday afternoon at Falley Field. Washburn won game two 3-2 after falling 5-2 in the opener. The teams will finish up the series with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Washburn (16-15, 15-13 MIAA) trailed 2-0 in game two before rallying to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Travis Ice walked to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a single by
Thomas Holiday. Ice scored on a wild pitch and Holiday later scored on a ground out by
Dane Simoneau.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth when late game heroics gave the Ichabods the win.
Wes Joy led off with a single and advanced to third on a double by
Brian Gomez. Vicente Vieyra came to the plate a knocked the first pitch into right center for the game-winning sacrifice fly.
Alex Coons (2-1) earned the win after tossing a perfect ninth inning.
Daren Parker threw eight solid innings allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits. Brandon Dahl (0-1) took the loss for Nebraska-Omaha (25-11, 21-7 MIAA).
The Mavericks jumped out 4-0 in game one with a four-run fourth inning off of Washburn starter
Brett Ash. The Ichabods cut the lead in half with a pair of runs in the fifth.
David Wade led off the inning with a walk and went to second on Gomez's single to center. Vieyra drew a bases-loaded walk to force in one run and Gomez scored on a double-play to make it 4-2. UNO tacked on a singlee run in the seventh for the 5-2 final.
Ash (3-3) took the loss after allowing five runs on 10 hits in seven innings. Joe Holtmeyer (7-1) got the win for the Mavericks allowing two runs on one hit with 13 strikeouts in a complete-game effort.
