Washburn will be back in action this weekend with a pair of home MIAA doubleheaders against Pittsburg State on Friday and Missouri Southern on Saturday.
UNO's Beth Haley retired the first eight Lady Blues (16-14, 3-4 MIAA) hitters in the game and was perfect until Marissa Martin's single to left in the bottom of the third inning. In the top of the third, UNO scored three runs off Lady Blues starter Kayla Long (8-9). Haley went on to retire the next six batters and had her streak snapped when Alex Zordel reached on an error.
Washburn's best scoring opportunity came in the sixth when Tish Williams was hit by a pitch and Lindsey Himpel singled to left. However Williams was retired on a fielder's choice and Britny Cushing grounded out to end the inning. The Mavericks (21-9, 5-2 MIAA)
Lauren Himpel recorded Washburn's third an final base hit in the bottom of the seventh to lead off the inning, but Washburn was retired in order to end the game.
