BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues picked up a doubleheader sweep over Southwest Baptist taking the first game 12-0 in five innings before winning a 3-1, weather-shortened game in the nightcap. Washburn will be back in action on Saturday at Central Missouri.
In the opener Washburn (14-24, 5-9 MIAA), the Lady Blues scored six runs in the second inning sending 10 batters to the plate.
Shelby Erickson had a two-RBI double while
Lindsey Moore,
Alex Zordel and
Kacy Covert all had RBI in the inning. Washburn added two more in the third inning with an RBI single by
Katie Schroeder and a sac fly by
Britny Cushing. Washburn sent in four more runs in the fourth inning capped by a three-run homer by
Marisa Tetuan while
Lauren Himpel had an RBI single as well.
Kelsie Novotny (8-11) picked up the win strking out seven in the win. Moore, Covert and
Lauren Himpel each had two hits.
In the nightcap which was called after six-plus innings after lightning delays, Washburn picked up the 3-1 win scoring all three runs in the third inning. Schreder reached with a single to left and then sored on an error by the left fielder.
Hilary Weatherford had a sac fly and
Lauren Himpel picked up an RBI on a single to left. SBU scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first.
Danielle Fox (6-12) recorded the win with four strikeouts allowing three hits. Moore had two hits in the second game.
