WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues won their third straight game picking up a come-from-behind win over Central Missouri 6-4. A medical emergency in the stands in the second game forced postponement of the second game until Tuesday, May 3 at 5 p.m. in Warrensburg.
Washburn (15-24, 6-9 MIAA) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
Kacy Covert led off the inning with a single to left and moved to third on a double by
Katie Schroeder. LIndsey Moore picked up a sac fly scoring Covert from third.
Alex Zordel doubled to center scoring Moore and
Britny Cushing doubled to right scoring Zordel. However the Jennies came back and scored two runs in the bottom of the frame. The Jennies (22-23, 8-9 MIAA) took advantage of a Lady Blues error scoring one of the two runs unearned.
In the fourth inning, the Jennies took the lead adding two more runs in the fourth inning.
Entering the seventh inning, Washburn rallied to score three runs in the inning to record the come back win. Covert led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a single by Moore. After a walk to
Lauren Himpel loaded the bases, Zordel sent home Covert with a sac fly to center. A walk to Cushing loaded the bases then
Marisa Tetuan ripped a doubled down the left field line scoring both Moore and Himpel putting Washburn up 6-4.
Danielle Fox, who entered the game in the fifth inning, struck out the final two batters while retiring the final seven batters of the game to pick up the win in relief.
Zordel and Tetuan each drove in two runs while Zorddel, Cushing and Covert each had two hits in the win. Fox (7-12), pitched three innings of scoreless relief striking out four allowing one hit.
