Up First . . .
The Washburn Lady Blues return to action riding a three-game winning streak as they will play host to No. 11-ranked Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday at the Washburn Softball Complex. The Lady Blues (15-24, 6-9 MIAA) will then host Lincoln and Truman on Saturday and Sunday this weekend before wrapping up the regular season on May 3 at Central Missouri. Washburn is in seventh place in the conference standings as of April 26th. The Lady Blues have seven games remaining to close out the season needing to finish in the top eight in the conference standings to reach the conference tournament May 8-10 in Kansas City. Nebraska-Omaha is in first place while Lincoln is in ninth place and Truman is in tenth. On Saturday against Lincoln, the Lady Blues will honor the lone senior on the team,
Jacque Horejsi prior to the first game against the Blue Tigers.
In the dugout . . .
Lisa Carey, the all-time winningest coach at Washburn, is in her ninth season in the Lady Blues' dugout. She was named the program's 13th coach Aug. 14, 2002 and has recorded a 252-215 (.538) mark during her Washburn tenure. The former University of Oklahoma three-time All-American and National Champion has led the Lady Blues to two of the three NCAA Division II tournament appearances in school history making the trips in 2006 and 2008. In eight seasons at the helm of the program, she has coached 52 Lady Blues to all-MIAA honors, seven all-region team selections, the 2007 MIAA Freshman of the Year, the 2009 MIAA Most Valuable Player, 49 MIAA Academic Honor Roll award winners as well as an ESPN The Magazine Academic all-district selection.
A look at the opponents . . .
• Nebraska-Omaha is 36-6 overall and 13-1 in MIAA play. They have outscored their opponents 71 to 28 in conference play. They have won 18 of their last 19 games. They topped Lincoln last time out on April 23 winning 4-1 in 10 innings and 1-0.
• Lincoln is 15-25 and 5-11 in the MIAA entering Friday's games at Fort Hays State. The Blue Tigers are ninth in the conference standings, two games behind Fort Hays State for the final conference tournament spot. They have have been outscored 79 to 30 in MIAA play this season.
• Truman is 20-20 overall and 4-10 in the MIAA. The Bulldogs will take on Missouri Southern on Wednesday before travelling to Hays to play the Tigers on Saturday.
Series history. . .
• The Mavericks lead the all-time series with the Lady Blues 26-8 and have won the last four. Washburn's last win was on April 4, 2009 in an 11-4 win in the first game of a doubleheader. In the last four games Washburn has been outscored 17 to 4. Head coach Lisa Carey is 5-6 against the Mavericks.
• Lincoln: Washburn leads the all-time series 18-2. The teams met earlier this season at the MIAA March Crossover and the Blue Tigers won 1-0. It was the first meeting since the 2004 season. Head coach Lisa Carey is 0-1 against Lincoln.
• Washburn leads the all-time series with Truman 31-28. Carey is 8-14 against the Bulldogs.
Who's on deck? . . .
Following the games with Truman on Sunday, Washburn will return to Warrensburg, Mo., to face Central Missouri in the second game of the doubleheader from April 24th which was postponed. The MIAA softball tournament starts May 5 in Kansas City with the top eight teams in the final conference standings.

WARRENSBURG, Mo. -- The Washburn Lady Blues won their third straight game picking up a come-from-behind win over Central Missouri 6-4.
Washburn (15-24, 6-9 MIAA) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning.
Kacy Covert led off the inning with a single to left and moved to third on a double by
Katie Schroeder. LIndsey Moore picked up a sac fly scoring Covert from third.
Alex Zordel doubled to center scoring Moore and
Britny Cushing doubled to right scoring Zordel. However the Jennies came back and scored two runs in the bottom of the frame. The Jennies (22-23, 8-9 MIAA) took advantage of a Lady Blues error scoring one of the two runs unearned.
In the fourth inning, the Jennies took the lead adding two more runs in the fourth inning.
Entering the seventh inning, Washburn rallied to score three runs in the inning to record the come back win. Covert led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a single by Moore. After a walk to
Lauren Himpel loaded the bases, Zordel sent home Covert with a sac fly to center. A walk to Cushing loaded the bases then
Marisa Tetuan ripped a doubled down the left field line scoring both Moore and Himpel putting Washburn up 6-4.
Danielle Fox, who entered the game in the fifth inning, struck out the final two batters while retiring the final seven batters of the game to pick up the win in relief.
Zordel and Tetuan each drove in two runs while Zorddel, Cushing and Covert each had two hits in the win. Fox (7-12), pitched three innings of scoreless relief striking out four allowing one hit.
