BOLIVAR, Mo. -- The Lady Blues hit .358 in their match and won the first two sets by 25-7 scores as they swept Southwest Baptist Friday night in MIAA action. Washburn improved to 20-1 overall and 7-1 in the MIAA and will continue action Saturday at 7 p.m. against seventh-ranked Central Missouri.
Jessica Fey had 10 kills and hit .588 with two blocks. She now has 299 career blocks and 1,033 kills in her career and needs one more block to become the ninth player in Washburn history to get 300 blocks and 1,000 digs.
Marissa Cox and
Hillary Hughes each had eight kills and Cox added six blocks and Hughes had nine digs. Cox hit .467 in the match and Hughes had a .312 percentage.
Abby Wittman and
Gracie Petersen divided up the setting duties with Wittman gettting 17 assists and Petersen getting 16.
Kelsey Lewis led the back row with 11 digs.
Washburn led the entire third set but after the Lady Blues jumped to leads of 11-5 and 15-7, the Bearcats went on an 11-5 run to get within two at 20-18. The Bearcats blocked three Washburn attacks during that stretch. The Lady Blues got to 23 on a kill from Fey and she later finished the match with another kill to win 25-21.
The Lady Blues had a 12-0 run in the first set that made the score 23-6. Cox had two kills and two blocks during that stretch and Wittman added two kills. The Bearcats (8-14, 1-7 MIAA) scored one more time but two kills from
Claire White clinched the set.
Washburn led 9-2 in the second set and then a 9-0 run made it 23-6. Two straight kills from
Megan Stroyek then ended the set.
The Bearcats hit .020 and had 21 kills while Washburn had 45 kills. The Lady Blues led in blocks 8-6 and in digs 56-33.
