Josh Creel of Central Oklahoma leads the individual race with a 7-under 65, three shots ahead of Zack Kempa from Indiana of Pennsylvania.
Washburn is making its sixth trip to the NCAA National Tournament and the first since the 2008 season. In 2011, the NCAA changed the format for the championship. This season, the 20 qualifying teams will play three rounds of stroke play, with the individual champion decided in those 54 holes. The top eight teams advance to medal-match play Friday and Saturday. Each of the five players on opposing teams will play a match, but the scoring is stroke play rather than traditional match play.
