KIRKWOOD, Mo. -- The Ichabods scored six unanswered runs as they beat third-ranked Central Missouri 8-6 in extra innings Friday at St. John Vianney High School in the first game of a doubleheader. The Mules took the second game 5-4.

Washburn moved to 5-12 overall and 5-11 in the MIAA and beat the Mules away from Falley Field for the first time since 2010. The games were moved to the St. Louis area to avoid snow and cold weather in Warrensburg. The two will play a single game Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's High School in St. Louis.

The Ichabods were down 6-2 after three innings. Taylor Herrington singled in a run in the fourth then Richard Swan and Kyle Carnahan had RBI in the fifth inning to get Washburn within a run. Riley Price then drove in Herrington in the sixth inning of a scheduled seven inning game.

The Mules went down in order in the sixth and left one on in the bottom of the seventh. Brad Alberts scored from third on a infield error from UCM to tie the game and Swan then doubled to drive in Dakota Kell for the winning run.

The Mules left one on in the bottom of the eighth to give Washburn the win.

Alberts started on the mound for Washburn and gave up the six runs, just three earned, over 2 1/3 innings. Taylor Gentry entered in relief and pitched the final 5 2/3 innings as he earned his first decision of the year. He gave up just two hits and struck out four as his scoreless pitching allowed Washburn to come back.

Parker Gibson led off the first game with a home run and then Corey Gragg walked. Kell then blasted a two-run shot to give Washburn a 3-0 lead.

Washburn started Drew Ridley kept UCM hitless the first three innings before the Mules broke through with a run in the fourth. Gibson got it back for Washburn with his second homer of the game but the Mules got a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to get the win.

Ridley gave up four runs, two earned, through five innings. He worked into the sixth but didn't record an out as the first two Central Missouri batters got hits off him. AJ Green entered the inning and allowed runs to score off a hit, wild pitch and groundout. The last run was credited to him as he took the loss.

Washburn had just six hits in the second game with Connor Crimmins getting three of them and two of them coming off of Gibson's two homers.

Alberts went 4 for 4 in game one and Herrington had three hits and three runs scored. Washburn pounded 17 hits in the first game and kept the Mules to five.
