EDMOND, Okla. -- The Ichabods out-hit Central Oklahoma but couldn't overcome 10 unanswered runs in a 20-13 loss Sunday in the series finale at Central Oklahoma.
The Bronchos swept the series and dropped Washburn to 9-29 overall and 8-28 in the MIAA. Washburn will wrap up a five-game MIAA road trip Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a doubleheader at Missouri Western.
Washburn had 17 hits including a school-record three doubles by
Richard Swan. The Broncos had 15 hits.
Washburn took a 2-0 lead in the opening frame.
Taylor Herrington led off the game with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from
Parker Gibson. Washburn later loaded the bases and
Richard Swan walked to drive in a run but Washburn left the bases loaded after that.
The Bronchos scored six runs in the bottom of the second and four more in the third to take a 10-2 lead.
The Ichabods were shut out in the second and third innings but scored runs every inning after that and were within three after scoring two in the top of the seventh. The Bronchos scored two in the bottom of the seventh and four in the eighth to put the game away.
Swan doubled in the fifth, eighth and ninth innings and finished with four RBI and two runs scored. Washburn had players get two doubles in a game 68 different times before Swan got three.
Gibson was 3 for 5 with a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Riley Price also went 3 for 5 at the plate with three RBI. He and Gibson each scored three times.
Brad Alberts went 2 for 4 with two walks.
Drew Ridley gave up the first eight runs and fell to 1-5 on the year.
The Bronchos hit three home runs, including a grand slam in the third.
