Ichabod soccer team wrap up 2014 season this weekend

 Opening Notes
•     The Washburn Ichabod soccer team will wrap up the 2014 campaign starting with a Halloween match up with Emporia State at 6 p.m. followed by a Sunday afternoon match at Fort Hays State on Nov. 2 to finish the season.
•    The Ichabods are 0-15-1 overall and 0-11-1 in MIAA play.
•    Last week the Ichabods fell 1-0 to Fort Hays State in Topeka on Oct. 24 and then 3-1 to Nebraska-Kearney on Oct. 26.
•     The Ichabods were picked fifth in the MIAA preseason coaches poll.

 'Bod's and Ends
•     The Ichabods are looking for their first win of the season.
•    Washburn has scored only six goals in 1,396 minutes of action this season - the lowest goal scoring output in the program's history.
•     The Washburn Ichabod soccer team has 13 freshmen on the roster this season.
•     Washburn is 2-13 in matches the last two seasons in matches which were decided by one goal going 0-9 this season.
•     Emily Stauffer leads the Ichabods with two goals this season.
•     Sara Specht has three assists to lead the Ichabods.
•    Devon Schmitz recorded her first goal of the season and her third of her career against Emporia State.
•    Audra Keehn scored her first collegiate goal against Northern State off an assist from Jenna Cunninghman.
•    Sophia Sabala scored her first career goal against Southwest Baptist on Oct. 19.
•    Washburn has been outshot by its opponents 271 to 123 this season including an 132 to 61 disadvantage in the second half of matches this season.
•     Washburn has recorded 39 corner kicks compared to 85 for its opponents.
•     Three of the seniors (Tori Fuglister, Valerie Harms, Jenna Cunningham) have been part of the program for  four years.
•     With eight sophomores and three redshirt freshmen the Ichabods will have 24 of their 30 players listed as underclassmen.
•     Washburn's roster has 30 players on it for the 2014 season. It is the largest roster the Ichabods have had in the program's history.
•    Kaitlin Minnich saw her first action in goal against Emporia State and shut the Hornets out for the final 65 minutes of the match with four saves picking up the tie in net.

 Noting Fort Hays State
•    FHSU (10-4-2, 8-2-2 MIAA) is third in the conference play, and has clinched a Top 4 finish in the MIAA headed into the tournament.  The Tigers have won four straight and are unbeaten in their last six games, picking up five shutouts in that span. 
•    Kelsey Steffens leads the Tigers with 17 points on the year, adding a goal and an assist in the Tigers two wins last weekend.  Steffens has scored six goals and assisted in five on the year.  Hailey Davey's nine assists leads the conference, and is just one short of tying the school's single-season assists record.  Davey has added three goals on the year for 15 points.  Cenayda Guzman and Jordan Hester have each scored four goals, while Jordan Shaw has picked up three goals and one assist for the year.
•    Defensively, FHSU is tied for first in the conference with just 10 goals allowed through 16 games (0.62 per game), and is tied for team shutouts.  Mallory Diederich (1,510 minutes), Jamie Babyak (1,489 minutes) and Hannah Smith (1,218 minutes) have started all 16 games for the Tigers' defense, sitting atop the team's leaderboard in minutes played, respectively.
•    Two-time MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week Kristen Thompson has played every minute between the pipes for FHSU this season, picking up 68 saves while allowing just 10 goals in 16 starts.  Thompson's 0.60 goals against average is second in the conference.

 Last meeting with Fort Hays State
(Oct. 24, 2014) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team fell 1-0 to Fort Hays State on Friday night at Yager Stadum. 
The teams were tied at the end of the first half as the Ichabods outshot the Tigers 5 to 4 as both teams had two shots on goal. The Tigers broke the tie in the 59th minute when Hailey Davis scored her third goal of the season on an assist from Kylee Loneker from 10 yards out for the eventual match-winning goal.
The Tigers outshot the Ichabods 10 to 2 in the second half and 14 to 7 overall for the match. Jenna Cunningham attempted three shots to lead the Ichabods and had one shot on goal. Tori Fuglister had six saves in net for the Ichabods.

 Noting Emporia State
•    Emporia State is 5-6-5 on the season and 2-5-5 in the MIAA with 11 points to place ninth in the conference standings. 
•    The Hornets have had nine different players score a goal while the ninth person didn't score a goal until the 19th match last season. Grace Linton has six goals on the season to lead Emporia State in scoring. 
•    It is the most goals scored by a Hornet since Melanie Zdanek scored nine and Brandie Booth had seven in the 2005 season.  Jordan Foutch and Amelie Heuhn both have two goals on the season while Jessica Schellhase has three assists. 
•    Yadira Rivera has a 1.07 goals against average with five shutouts this season. She had a streak of 424:46 without allowing a goal snapped at Missouri Western.  She holds the Emporia State career record with 14 shutouts in her first two years.

 Last meeting with Emporia State
(Sept. 19, 2014) EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team snapped a four-game losing streak with a 1-1 double overtime tie at Emporia State on Friday. 
The Hornets jumped out to an early lead in the match in the 16th minute when Grace Linton scored unassisted and the score remain 1-0 with ESU leading at the break. ESU outshot the Ichabods 10-4 in the first half.
In the second stanza, Devon Schmitz scored her first goal of the season in the 59th minute off an assist from Sara Specht who recorded her second assist of the season tying the score.
Kaitlin Minnich came into the match to start the second half for her first collegiate action and picked up four saves while facing 14 shots.
Washburn was outshot 24 to 9 in the match as the Hornets picked up seven shots on goal compared to the Ichabods. The match also had 19 fouls called with 10 being whistled on the Hornets. 
Kelly Schunk had four shots to lead the Ichabod attack.

• Washburn is 90-112-32 (.484) all-time in its 12th season of action. 
• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 58-70-21 (.480). 
• In home matches, the Ichabods are 46-42-15 (.557).
• On the road, the Ichabods are 37-62-13 (.416).
• In matches on neutral sites, the Ichabods are 7-8-4 (.474). 

 Washburn record watch
• Senior goalkeeper Tori Fuglister became the all-time saves leader against Nebraska-Kearney last time out pushing her career total to 323 passing Jenna Hatlestad who recorded 319 saves.
• Fuglister has played in 64 matches at Washburn which is also the most by any Ichabod goalie in the program's history.
