The sixth-ranked Ichabods will try to add to a five-match winning streak when they play twice on the road this weekend and then Tuesday at No. 8 Nebraska-Kearney. The three matches will wrap up the first half of the MIAA season. Washburn (15-1, 7-1 MIAA) will play at Pittsburg State Friday at 7 p.m. and then at Southwest Baptist Saturday at 3 p.m. The Ichabods and Lopers will then face each other at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Ichablogging Weekly Notes
The Ichabods handed Central Oklahoma its second loss of the year last weekend, 3-1 and then swept MSSU to end a four-match home stand.
The Ichabods are in a three-way tie for first in the MIAA. Pittsburg State is 5-11 overall and seventh at 2-6 in the league. SBU is 6-10 and 11th in the league at 1-7. The Lopers are 14-2 overall and fourth in the MIAA at 6-2.
Marissa Cox earned her 1,000th career kill 9/19 against NWMSU. She's 18th in WU history with 1,076 kills and second with a .328 career attack percentage. Fifteen more kills will move her to 17th.
Cox is second in the MIAA with 3.90 kills a set and
Sarah Vicory is first hitting .379. Cox is fifth with a .344 attack percentage.
Leanna Willer is third with 3.87 kills and freshman
Mattie-Ann Swenson is third with 1.30 blocks a set.
Cox is now tied for 10th in school history with 47 double-figure kill matches and Willer is tied for 10th with 20 double-doubles in her career.
WU is 56-21 all-time against PSU and has won 10 straight dating back to 2008. Herron is 20-5 against the Gorillas. The Bods are 43-4 against SBU and Herron has won all 22 of his matches against the Bearcats. The last SBU win in the series was 1998. The Lopers lead the all-time series against WU 18-7 but the Bods won both regular season matches last year. The Lopers then won in the MIAA tournament semifinal. Prior to last year's regular season wins, the Lopers had won 13 straight in the series.
The Ichabods moved up one spot for the third straight week and are No. 6 in this week's AVCA national poll. They have been ranked 140 straight times going back to 2003 and have been in the top 10 in all six polls this year.
