Ichablogging Weekly Notes
A four-match home stand begins this weekend as the Ichabods host two MIAA contests at Schendel Court in Lee Arena. No. 13 Washburn will host Pittsburg State Friday at 7 p.m. and Southwest Baptist Saturday at 6 p.m.
Washburn is 21-5 overall and fifth in the MIAA at 13-5. PSU is 10-16 and seventh in the league at 7-11. SBU is 9-17 and 10th at 4-14 in the MIAA.
Washburn beat both of these teams in road matches earlier this year.
The Ichabods went 2-1 last week as they wrapped up a five-match road trip, their final contests on the road this season.
Washburn was ninth in last week's NCAA Central Region ranking. The MIAA, NSIC and GAC champions get an automatic berth to the NCAA regional and the remaining five spots are decided by the ranking.
Marissa Cox moved to 14th in school history last week, now with 1,202 career kills. She needs nine more to catch current assistant coach
Jessica Fey.
Cox is fifth in school history hitting .319 while
Sarah Vicory is hitting .332 in her career. That number would rank second at WU but she isn't eligible until completing two years.
Vicory leads the MIAA hitting .376, 46 points better than her nearest competition. Cox is sixth hitting .303. Cox is third in the league with 3.73 kills a set and
Leanna Willer is fifth with 3.71 a set.
Cox is seventh in school history with 54 double-figure kill matches and
Leanna Willer is ninth with 24 career double-doubles.
WU is 57-21 all-time against Pittsburg State and has won 11 straight in the series going back to 2009. The Bods are 44-4 all-time against SBU and haven't lost since 1998. Herron is 23-0 against the Bearcats and 21-5 against PSU.
The Ichabods dropped to 13th in this week's AVCA national poll. They have been ranked 144 straight times going back to 2003 and were in the top 10 in the first nine polls this year.
