The Ichabods will be the last MIAA team to start their season as they play a weekend series at Lindenwood and then return home to host Rockhurst Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Falley Field.
The Lindenwood series was moved from Topeka to St. Charles, Mo., due to wet field conditions and will start with a doubleheader Friday at 3 p.m. Saturday they'll play at 1 p.m. and they'll wrap up the series Sunday at 12 p.m.
Every other conference team has played at least two non-conference games and all 14 schools will be starting MIAA play this weekend.
Washburn went 11-33 last year and finished 14th in the conference at 9-32.
Brett Ash will return to the mound after a season off due to injury. He went 7-4 in 2012 and he led the NCAA with 10 complete games. He's currently sixth in Washburn career history with 17 wins and eighth with 148 strikeouts.
About Washburn
Riley Price will return after leading the Ichabods with a .370 batting average. He'll look to play at first base after being the designated hitter last year.
Parker Gibson will also return after playing every game in center field last year and hitting .308 and stealing 19 bases. Gibson,
Taylor Herrington and
Taylor Gentry all return after earning all-MIAA honorable mention last year. Herrington batted .345 and led the team with 35 runs scored. Gentry led the pitching staff with a 4.20 ERA and three wins.
Head coach Steve Anson is starting his 35th season at Washburn with an 818-774-3 (.514) record. He is the winningest active coach in the MIAA.
About Lindenwood
Lindenwood is 2-3 this year after opening the season with a sweep at Christian Brothers and then suffering three losses to Augustana (S.D.) February 15-16. The Lions went 23-24 last year and finished seventh in the MIAA at 21-17. This will be their first year eligible for the MIAA postseason tournament.
Wade Rothermich is batting .545 (12 for 22) in Lindenwood's first five games. Relievers Geoff Hartlieb and Brendan Kleekamp have combined to pitch nine innings without giving up an earned run.
Last year's three-game series in Topeka were the first games between the two schools. The Lions won two of those games.
About Rockhurst
Rockhurst lost its opener Tuesday, 17-14 at Avila. Josh Dennett drove in three runs and Calin McCourt had three hits. Alex Seler gave up the last four runs on the mound to earn the loss.
Washburn has played the Hawks at least once every year since 1999 after the two split two games last year. Rockhurst owns a 34-31 advantage in the all-time series.

This week's schedule change means Washburn's first three MIAA series will be played on the road. The Ichabods will play at Central Oklahoma February 28 - March 2 and then come home to host Newman March 4 and William Jewell March 5 in a pair of single games at Falley Field.
