The series shifts to Falley Field on Saturday starting with a 2 p.m. doubleheader following Steve Anson Day festivities starting at 1:40 p.m. Free Ichabod baseball hats to the first fans in the gate (limited quantity available).
The Ichabods (14-1, 8-1 MIAA) scored six runs in the top of the ninth rallying from a 11-5 deficit tying the score at 11 entering the bottom of the ninth. In the ninth inning, Washburn's big hit was a 3-run homer by
Tanner Johnson scoring
Connor Crimmins and
Kyle Carnahan which tied the score. The Ichabods also picked up a run on an RBI single by
David Gauntt scoring
Riley Krane who reached via an ESU error.
The Hornets (11-3, 5-3 MIAA) jumped on the board in the first scoring a olo run and then
Tanner Triggs hit a solo home run of his own tying the score at 1-1. Emporia added four runs in the bottom of the second taking a 5-1 lead. Washburn's
Parker Gibson recorded a sac fly scoring Johnson cutting the Hornet lead to three at 5-2 after three innings.
Neither team would score until the Ichabods picked up a run on a sac fly by Crimmins scoring Krane and then Washburn added another run on a ground out by Trigggs scoring Carnahan. An RBI single by
Corey Gragg tied the score at 5-5 when Gauntt scored. ESU came back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth taking a 9-5 lead and then added two more in the bottom of the eighth going up 11-5.
The Ichabods tied the score with the six runs in the top of the ninth before Tory Bell homered with two outs giving the Hornets the walk off win.
Triggs and Johnson each had two hits to lead the Ichabods and Krane, Carnahan, Triggs and Johnson all scored two times. Triggs added a career-high 5 RBI.
