Box Score 2 RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Seventh-ranked Washburn Volleyball improved to 10-0 on the season with sweeps of Arkansas Tech and Harding at the GAC/MIAA Crossover on Friday, Sept. 18.
WU closes the invitational with a 1 p.m., match against Southern Nazarene on Saturday, Sept. 19.

No. 7 Washburn 3, Arkansas Tech 0 (25-12, 29-27, 25-18)Trailing by one (5-4) in the first set, a kill from
Taylor Selk started an 11-1 run for the Ichabods that ended with eight unanswered and put them in the lead, 15-6. Though Arkansas Tech stopped the run, Washburn continued to push and stretched the lead to 10 (20-10) soon after.
Sarah Vicory's third kill of the set clinched the game, 25-12, for WU. Selk led the team with five kills in the game.
Tied at 10-all in the second set, an ATU attack error was the first point of a 5-1 run for WU that provided separation for the Ichabods. Leading 22-18 late, the Golden Suns came back to look at set point (25-24) with a 7-2 run, but the Ichabods recovered to take the set, 29-27, in a win-by-two situation. Willer was the top hitter for the Ichabods in the set, finishing with seven (including the game-winner).
After surviving a tough test in the second, Washburn roared out to a 6-0 lead in the third set, pushing it 9-2. ATU responded, however, and came back to within one, 15-14. Leading 17-16, a burst of six unanswered for the Ichabods gave WU back a comfortable lead (23-16) before sweeping the match with a 25-18 set three win.
Willer led the way with a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs, adding two blocks as well with a .371 hitting percentage. Selk had 11 kills with a .381 hitting percentage in the match, while
Sarah Vicory had a seven-kill, six-block performance while hitting .467.
Liz Powell had 34 assists in the match with five digs, while
Alyssa Carney's 19 digs was a team-high.
Carley Swan added four blocks to finish third on the team at the net.
No. 7 Washburn 3, Harding 0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-20)After starting the match with four unanswered, Washburn grew its lead to seven (10-3) early in the first set and never looked back, not allowing the Bisons within five again on the way to a 25-17 win to open the contest.
Tied at 5-all early in the second, back-to-back kills from
Paige Regnier and
Korie Thompson provided the Ichabods with all the breathing room they would need. Later in the set, up 13-8, a kill from Willer was the start of a 5-1 run that pushed the lead to nine (18-9). HU would come back to within five (20-15), but the Ichabods held strong and took the set, 25-18, off a kill from
Leanna Willer.
Washburn trailed early, 7-3, before coming back to take a 10-9 lead thanks to a quick four-point burst. From there, Washburn went on runs of three and four (7-1 total run) to stretch the lead to six (17-11). HU again charged late, climbing within two (22-20), but two Bisons errors and a kill from
Kelsey Barrick ended things, 25-20.
Willer led the team for the second time on the day with 16 kills as the only Ichabod in double-digits.
Carley Swan had seven kills while
Paige Regnier and
Taylor Selk had six kills each.
At setter,
Liz Powell (28 assists, nine digs) and
Natalie Bates (10 assists, six digs) split time.
Alyssa Carney's 14 digs was a team-high.
Sarah Vicory had nine blocks (one solo) to tie her career high, adding three kills at the net, while Willer also had three blocks.
