Ichabod soccer team opens MIAA play with Lions and No. 1 Jennies

 Opening Notes
•     The Washburn Ichabod soccer team will open MIAA play on the road starting with Lindenwood on Friday night in St. Charles, Mo., before facing the No. 1 team in the NSCAA Poll when they take on Central Missouri in Warrensburg on Sunday.
•    The Ichabods are coming off their first win of the season in a 3-1 non-conference win over Nebraska-Kearney on Sunday in Yager Stadium.
•    The win snapped a 27-game winless streak for the Ichabods dating back to a 2-0 win over Missouri Southern on Oct. 25, 2013.

 'Bod's and Ends
•    The three goals scored against Nebraska-Kearney in the win last Sunday was the most by an Ichabod squad since recording three on Oct. 13, 2013 against Northwest Missouri in a 3-0 win in Topeka.
•    The Ichabods are 0-1-1 when facing the No. 1 team in the nation.
•    The last time the Ichabods played the No. 1 team in the nation was on Nov. 5, 2006 and tied No. 1 Nebraska-Omaha 2-2 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, but lost 3-1 in penalty kicks.
•    The first time the Ichabods faced the No. 1 team in the nation was on Sept. 20, 2003 and lost 4-0 in the first year of the Washburn program.
•    The Ichabods have scored five goals in six matches so far this season. Washburn was held to eight goals in 18 matches last season.
•    The Ichabods are being outshot 76-49 this season and 7-2 in overtime.
•    Kaitlin Minnich has recorded 32 saves and a .800 save percentage in her first six collegiate starts playing all 580 minutes this season in net for the Ichabods.
•    Cadence Bourne, Paige Swanson, Bailey Wobig, Emily Stauffer and Michelle Keleher have each scored one goal for the Ichabods this season.
•    Sara Specht, Swanson, Bourne and Morgan El-Attrache each have assists for Washburn.
•    Swanson and Bourne lead the team with three points overall.
•    The goals on Sunday by Swanson and Keleher were their first collegiate goals.

 Noting Lindenwood
•    The Lions are 1-3-2 entering the match with the Ichabods on Friday.
•    They are coming off a 2-1 loss to Missouri Western and a 7-0 loss to Central Missouri last weekend.
•    Alexis Robbers has two goals to lead the Lions.
•    Zoe Wetzel is 1-1-1 in net with a 2.79 goal against average. 

 Series history with Lindenwood
•    The Ichabods lead the all-time series 2-1-0 in three meetings.
•    Lindenwood won the last meeting 1-0 in Topeka. 
•    The Ichabod is 1-0 in matches played in St. Charles winning 2-1 on Oct. 20, 2013.

 Last meeting with Lindenwood
(Sept. 26, 2014) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods fell 1-0 on Friday night in Yager Stadium as the Lindenwood Lions connected on a penalty kick with 6:09 left to play. Washburn will host No. 17 Central Missouri on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Lindenwood's Danielle Torry scored her first goal of the season on the penalty kick as it went into the lower left hand side of the net past a diving Tori Fuglister for the only goal of the match. The play was set up after the Lions' Becky Roberts was taken down in the penalty box.
The Ichabods outshot the Lions in the first half 5 to 4, but the Lions outshot the Ichabods in the second half 8 to 3. Fuglister finished with three saves in the match. Melissa Weiss had three saves for the Lions as she picked up the shutout. 
It was a physical game as the teams were whistled for 31 fouls with 17 coming against the Ichabods. Eight different players had shot attempts for the Ichabods while Kirsten Crabtree led the Lions with four before leaving the game with 3:18 to play after receiving a yellow card. 

 Noting Central Missouri
•    The Jennies are ranked No. 1 nation and 6-0 this season entering a Friday match with Emporia State in Warrensburg.
•    The Jennies have allowed two goals this season while scoring 29 in six matches.
•    Julie Ireland leads the team with six goals and Hannah Pyle has four assists adding two goals.
•    Mikala Modiri has five goals and Megan Woolley has four goals for the Jennies.
•    Ana Dilkes has a microscopic 0.18 goal against average allowing one goal collecting 26 saves.
•    The Jennies have not allowed a first half goal this season outscoring opponents 12-0.

 Series history with Central Missouri
•    The Jennies lead the all-time series 15-5-1 and have won the last seven in the series.
•    Washburn's last win was on Sept. 24, 2009 in a 1-0 win in Topeka.
•    Washburn is 2-9 in matches played in Warrensburg.

 Last meeting with Central Missouri
(Sept. 28,  2014) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod soccer team found itself down 2-1 after the first 11 minutes of the match with No. 17 Central Missouri and they could not recover falling 5-1 to the Jennies. 
The Jennies' Alex Yockey score two goals in the first 5:42 of the match en route to the hatrick after adding a third goal of the day in the 23rd minute becoming the second opponent in the Ichabod program history to record a hatrick against Washburn scoring her third, fourth and fifth goals of the season against the Ichabods.
Washburn got on the board in the 11th minute cutting the lead to 2-1 when Emily Stauffer scored her second goal of the season off a rebound off the post from a shot and pass from Whitney Skinner and Cadence Bourne.
The Jennies added to their lead in the 16th minute when Emily Francehett scored into the right corner of the net and her goal was followed by Tockey's unassisted goal in the 23rd minute.
Julie Ireland scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from Nicole Pond before the halftime horn wrapping up the scoring as both teams were scoreless in the second half.
The Ichabods were outshot by the Jennies 18 to 5 in the match including an 8 to 1 advantage in the second half. Tori Fuglister recorded seven saves in net for the Ichabods while four different Ichabods had shots on goal.
The Jennies broke the Ichabod opponent record for most goals scored in a half snapping the mark of four goals Truman scored against Washburn on Sept. 14, 2003 in the first year of the Ichabod program.

 About head coach Chris Jones
•    Chris Jones is 1-3-2 in his first season at Washburn and is only the second coach in the program's history since 2003.
•    Jones spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Fort Hays State where the Tigers went 20-13-5 coaching 11 all-MIAA picks.
•    Prior to joining the Tigers, he was president and coach of the University of Oklahoma's men's club team.

• Washburn is 91-117-34 (.449) all-time in its 13th season of action. 
• In MIAA play, the Ichabods are 58-72-21 (.460).
