Opening Notes
•    The Washburn Ichabod football team will make its first postseason appearance since 2011 and its first bowl game trip since 2010 returning to the Mineral Water Bowl on Dec. 3 to take on Bemidji State with a 12 p.m. kickoff in Excelsior Springs, Mo.
•    The Ichabods are making their second trip to the Mineral Water Bowl with the last trip coming in 2004 when they defeated Northern State (S.D.) 36-33.
•    Bemidji State finished the season 8-3 and they last played in Mineral Water Bowl in 2006 falling to Pittsburg State 35-27.
•   The Ichabods (7-4, 7-4 MIAA) are coming off a 30-3 loss to No. 9-ranked Emporia State in the regular season finale.
•    The Beavers (8-3, 8-3 NSIC) blasted Minnesota Crookston 76-13 in its final game of the season and finished second in the north division with a 5-2 record.

Ichabod All-MIAA Selections
The Washburn Ichabod football team had 13 players honored on the all-MIAA football team which was announced after a vote by the league's coaches. Washburn had one first team pick, four second team selections, two third team picks and six who earned honorable mention all-MIAA honors.
Senior linebacker
Cody Heiman was Washburn's first team pick after leading the Ichabods with 96 tackles including 7.0 for loss and 3.5 sacks for 14 yards adding two interceptions and a 60-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown against Missouri Southern. He is seventh in the MIAA in tackles this season. Heiman was a second team pick as a junior.
Named to the second team on the offensive line was senior left tackle
Michael Miller who will make his 45th consecutive start in the Mineral Water Bowl. Miller was a second team all-MIAA pick following his junior and senior seasons and was an honorable mention all-conference pick as a redshirt freshman.
Sophomore place kicker/punter
Perry Schmiedeler was named both second team offense and second team defense this season. He was named to the offensive team for his placekicking abilities after hitting 16 of 21 field goals including a career-long 50-yard attempt against Missouri Western. The 16 field goals led the MIAA this season and tied for fourth on the Ichabod single-season chart. He leads the Ichabods in scoring with 81 points this season hitting 33 of 34 extra points. He is fifth in the MIAA in scoring overall and fourth in kick scoring. Defensively, his punting average of 41.7 yards per punt is ranked second in the MIAA connecting on a career-long attempt of 70 against Emporia State on Nov. 12. His 16 punts of more than 50-yards led the MIAA. Washburn led the MIAA in net punting this season with a 38.3 yard per punt average.
Senior defensive end
Akhmad Abdul-Razzaq was a second team selection for the second season in a row after finishing third on the Ichabods in tackles with 60 adding 8.5 tackles for loss and a team-high 4.5 sacks for 38 yards.
Senior wide receiver
Bryce Chavis was a third team all-MIAA pick after earning honorable mention all-MIAA honors last season. Chavis led the Ichabods with 39 catches for 628 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 16.1 yards per catch. Chavis also led the Ichabods in all-purpose yards per game with 73.0.
Senior defensive back
Zach Franklin was a third team selection this season recording 35 tackles with 28 solo stops with an interception against Emporia State last time out. He recorded 13 pass break ups and was a second team all-MIAA pick as a junior.

McGinnis passed for 2,170 yards and 14 touchdowns this season and Marco has started the last 14 games on the offensive line for Washburn. Parker was an honorable mention all-MIAA selection as a sophomore starting the 25 games at defensive tackle. This season he had 32 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss. Matthews led the Ichabods with 12 tackles for loss for 30 yards adding 4.0 sacks for 15 yards.
Tillman was second on the team with 94 tackles coming off a career-high 17 tackles against Emporia State last time out. He had six tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks with two fumble recoveries. Ballentine finished fourth on the squad in tackles with 58 adding 6.5 tackles for loss and 12 pass breakups with two interceptions and a forced fumble.

Michael Miller will be making his 45th consecutive start for the Ichabods in the Mineral Water Bowl … he started 11 games at left guard as a freshman, 11 games at right tackle as a sophomore, 11 games at left tackle as a junior and has started all 11 games so far this season at left tackle.
•    The Ichabods are eighth in scoring offense at 27.7 ppg in the MIAA rankings and 10th in total offense at 366.4 yards per game.
•    Washburn has the eighth-best rushing offense in the league at 152.0 yards per game and it is ranked 11th in passing offense at 214.4 yards per game.

Perry Schmiedeler is fourth in the MIAA in kick scoring at 7.4 points per game and ranked fifth overall in the MIAA in scoring.

Know the Foe
•    Gena Adams, Jesse Hein and Brandon Schindler were named to the NSIC North Division All-Conference First Team Offense, while Damon Benham, Alex Burgess, Jamison Evans, Gunner Olszewski and Trysten Ross were selected to the First Team Defense. Bemidji State's selections to the NSIC All-Conference Second Team Offense included Jordan Hein, Blake Holder, Jake Krause and Matthew Valentine, while Jake Wirsching was named to the Second Team Defense and Juwaan Richard was placed on the Second Team Special Teams. Kameel Al-Khouri, Vince Dinkel and Blake Petrich finish their senior seasons as members of the All-NSIC Honorable Mention team.
•    Bemidji State capped a record-setting season with a 76-13 win over University of Minnesota Crookston Saturday, Nov. 12 on senior day.
•    The program's eight wins was the most since reaching the same mark in 2011.
•    The Beavers were ranked in the American Football Coaches Association Coaches' Top 25 Poll and D2Football.com Media Top 25 Poll multiple times during 2016, the first instance of being ranked in either poll since 2011.
•    The Beavers saw multiple team and individual records fall this season, capped off with the annual "Hubcap" rivalry against the Golden Eagles to close the season.
•    The program set a single-game records for points (76) and touchdowns (11), and reached 350 wins as a program with the victory against UMC. •   Junior quarterback Jordan Hein broke the all-time BSU passing and total touchdowns against the Golden Eagles, totaling 58 and 75, respectively, in his career.
•    Sophomore Gunner Olszewski set the single-game punt return yardage record with 194, breaking the previous record by 40 yards.
•    Junior wide receiver Blake Holder recorded his fifth consecutive 100-yard receiving game, the longest streak for a BSU student-athlete since at least 2001.
•    Earlier this season, Hein broke BSU's all-time passing yardage record and has recorded 5,782 passing yards in his career.
•    Bemidji State set or finished in the top five of program single-season records in the following categories: rushing touchdowns (1st; 35), passing yards (1st; 3,207), passing touchdowns (1st, 33), passing yards/game (1st; 291.5); total offense (1st; 5,777), total offense/game (1st; 525.2), total offense/play (1st; 7.1), all-purpose yards (1st, 7,255), total points (1st, 511), touchdowns (1st, 71), margin of victory (1st; 31.3), rushing yards (2nd; 2,570), rushing yards/game (2nd; 233.6), passing efficiency (2nd; 155.5), kickoff return yards (2nd; 976), pass completions (4th; 190) and punt return yards (5th; 379).
•    BSU finished second in the NSIC North Division and third in the overall standings.
•    Bemidji State began the season with a win at home against Upper Iowa University before traveling to previously-ranked No. 6 Minnesota State University Mankato and taking a convincing 45-17 win in Mankato, Minn.
•    The Beavers were within seven points in each of their three losses, and fell by a total margin of nine points.
•    The program's eight wins is the eighth time in program history to reach that mark.
•    Junior quarterback Jordan Hein is one of 42 to be nominated for the Harlon Hill Trophy.
•    He finished the 2016 regular season by breaking multiple BSU career records, including total passing yards (6,116), total touchdowns responsible for (77) and passing touchdowns (59). Hein also set the BSU single-season passing efficiency record (167.4) and tied the previous record of 27 touchdown passes in one season.
•    Gena Adams leads the team with a 90.5 yards per game rushing average netting 995 this season with eight touchdowns … Adams also leads the team in scoring with 74 points and 12 touchdowns overall adding four receiving scores.
•    Juwaan Richard has 32 catches for 560 yards and a team-high eight touchdowns while Blake Holder has 31 catches for 730 yards and seven touchdowns.
•    Gunner Olszewski leads the team with 85 tackles and Trysten Ross has 84 with 9.0 tackles for loss.
•    Alex Burgess has a team-high 10 tackles for loss and with 7.5 sacks for 56 yards.
•    As a team, the Beavers have 18 interceptions with 28 sacks and 74 tackles for loss, which is 30 more than their opponents this season.

Last Time Out For Bemidji State ...
(Nov. 12, 2016) The Bemidji State University football team closed out senior day in fashion with a program-record 76-13 win versus University Minnesota Crookston. Junior quarterback Jordan Hein set two touchdown records and finished with 278 passing yards, 42 rushing yards and four passing touchdowns.
The Beavers (8-3, 5-2 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North Division) scored a record 11 touchdowns en route to the highest point total in program history. The previous record was held since 2000 in a 70-0 win versus University of Minnesota Morris. Hein broke the program's all-time passing touchdown and total touchdown records, finishing the regular season with 58 and 75, respectively.
Bemidji State finished the first quarter with a 7-0 lead before scoring four touchdowns in each of the second and third quarters to take a 35-0 lead heading into halftime. Both teams opened the second half with two touchdown drives, beginning with a 95-yard kickoff return for a score by junior wide receiver Juwaan Richard, his first kickoff return for a touchdown on the season. The two scores were the only points allowed by the "Gang Green" defense, who forced 13 punts and two interceptions. The Beavers punted just two times on 19 drives.
Senior linebacker Josh Tismer and junior linebacker Trysten Ross each reached double-digit tackles, Tismer with a team-high 11 and Ross with 10. The Beavers forced three sacks while senior defensive back Kameel Al-Khouri and freshman defensive back Michael Junker nabbed BSU's interceptions.
Junior wide receiver Blake Holder recorded his fifth consecutive game with 100+ receiving yards, totaling 121 on the day with two touchdowns on two catches. Sophomore Gunner Olszewski ran back seven punts for 194 yards and one touchdown. Sixteen Beavers seniors were honored before the game for their hard work on the field and in the classroom at BSU.

Last Time Out For The Ichabods
(Nov. 12, 2016) TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods wrapped up the regular season with a 30-3 loss to No. 9 Emporia State in the Turnpike Tussle on Saturday in Yager Stadium. Washburn finishes the season with a 7-4 record tying for fourth in the MIAA standings.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Ichabods took a 3-0 lead on a 39-yard field goal by Perry Schmielder with 10:27 to play in the first half. It was his 16th of the season which is fourth on the Ichabod single season chart.
ESU would then score 17-straight points the second quarter to take a 17-3 lead to the break.
The Hornets (10-1, 10-1 MIAA) then added a touchdown in the third quarter and then two Austin Morton field goals in the fourth quarter leading to the 30-3 win.
Austin Tillman led the Ichabods with a career-high 17 tackles adding a tackle for loss.
Cody Heiman finished with 12 tackles adding a sack and
Akhmad Abdul-Razzaq recorded nine tackles.

Zach Franklin each picked off a Hornet pass.

The Ichabods held the Hornets to 330 total yards of offense with only 195 through the air. Washburn finished with 58 yards rushing and 79 yards passing for 137 total yards.

Last time in the Mineral Water Bowl
(12/4/2004) EXCELSIOR SPRINGS, Mo. - The Washburn Ichabods won their first postseason game against collegiate competition since 1976 completing a stellar 8-4 season winning the 2004 Mineral Water Bowl 36-33 over Northern State.
After the Wolves scored 16 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 33, the Ichabods drove 65 yards in nine plays in 1:41 to set up Connor Sabel's game-winning field goal of 32 yards. Senior quarterback Tyler Schuerman completed 3-of-6 passes for 46 yards and scampered for 13 more to set up the game-winning field goal.
The Ichabods jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a Schuerman to Sam Sissom touchdown pass on the opening drive of the game. Sissom would set a new Mineral Water Bowl record with 216 yards receiving and tied another Mineral Water Bowl record with 11 receptions. Sissom was also named the Offensive Player of the Game.
Northern State would cut the lead to 7-3 on a 25-yard field goal. On the ensuing drive, Schuerman hooked up with Mike Odupitan for a 53-yard touchdown strike that would push the Ichabods' lead to 13-3. Odupitan finished the game also over the century mark in receiving yards with 119 yards receiving on eight receptions. The lead was pushed to 20-3 on Jarod Tetuan's 19-yard pass reception from Schuerman.
After halftime, the Wolves scored 14 points in the second quarter as they cut the Ichabod lead to 20-17.
In the fourth quarter, Trent Hearn scored on a 1-yard touchdown dive capping a 93-yard scoring drive for the Ichabods and pushing the Washburn lead to 27-17. The Ichabods would add to that after Calvin Stuckey's second interception of the game gave the Ichabods possession at their own 5-yard line as the Wolves were preparing to score. Stuckey was named the Mineral Water Bowl's Defensive Most Valuable Player.
The Ichabods recorded their longest scoring drive of the season on a 95-yard drive in nine plays as Jeff Scott caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Schuerman to put the Ichabods up 33-17.
The Wolves tied the score at 33 on scoring drives of 1:54 (9 plays, 76 yards) and 0:35 (3 plays 71 yards) setting up the Ichabods game-winning drive.
Schuerman tied a Mineral Water Bowl record with his four touchdown passes. Two others had set the Mineral Water Bowl record of four, both were set by junior colleges, the Division II record was three. Schuerman also finished with a career-high 400 yards passing completing 23 of 38 passes.
