ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabods drew a split on the final day of the Missouri Western/Hy-Vee Regional Crossover on Sunday topping St. Cloud State 7-3 before losing the nightcap 9-3 to Upper Iowa to go 2-4 over the six games played. Washburn returns to MIAA play on Friday when they will play host to Lincoln at 2 p.m. at the Washburn Softball Complex.
Game 1 - Washburn 7, St. Cloud State 3
The Ichabods opened the scoring in the top of the third courtesy of a two-run blast by
Jordan Erickson scoring
Dakota Sanders who reached first after she was plunked by a pitch. After the Huskies scored two more in the bottom of the frame to tie the score, St. Cloud would take the lead in the bottom of the fifth on a home run going up 3-2.
Washburn came back in its next at bat scoring three times on RBI singles by
Savannah Moore and an RBI by
Lacie Myers. The Ichabods tacked on two more in the seventh on an RBI double by Moore scoring
Erica Harper and then Moore scored on a double by
Taylor Kemp.
Moore and
Samantha Carson each had two hits for the Ichabods and Erickson drove in two with one hit.
Game 2 - Upper Iowa 9, Washburn 3
The Ichabods fell behind 3-0 after the Peacocks scored three in the top of the third, but Washburn came back with two in the bottom of the third as
Megan Stegman and
Jordan Erickson who both singled scored on a double by
Samantha Carson.
However Upper Iowa came back with four in the top of the fourth to go up 7-2. Washburn scored a solo run in the fifth when Carson scored on an RBI single by
Savannah Moore for Washburn's last run.
Ashley Wills took the loss allowing six earned runs with two strikeouts.
