EMPORIA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabods split a non-conference doubleheader with Emporia State on Saturday afternoon in Emporia falling 7-1 before coming back to win the second game 3-0. The Ichabods' MIAA twinbill with Emporia State originally scheduled for Friday will be rescheduled to April 11th in Topeka.
Game 1 - Emporia State 7, Washburn 1
The Ichabods fell behind 2-0 after the second inning and gave up four in the third including two unearned runs as the Hornets took a 6-0 lead after three innings.
In the sixth, Washburn got on the board when
Jordan Erickson reached on a single to left and then moved to second on a passed ball and then would come around to score on a double to right center by
Savannah Moore for the Ichabods' lone run of the game.
The Hornets added another in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead to 7-1 wrapping up the win.
Washburn tallied with four hits in the game with Erickson,
Erica Harper,
Dakota Sanders and Moore all recording hits.
Kelsee Henry took the loss allowing four earned runs and
Ashley Wills pitched the final three giving up two hits and one earned run.
Game 2 - Washburn 3, Emporia State 0
Lexi Crabtree picked up her first collegiate win in a three-hit complete-game shutout leading the Ichabosd to a split in the doubleheader.
Washburn (18-23) struck first in the top of the first when
Ashley Ruder scored on a single up the middle by
Erica Harper reaching base after being hit by a pitch.
The Ichabods added a pair of unearned runs in the fifth inning when Ruder and
Britnee Douglas both scored in the inning. Ruder singled to lead off the inning and Douglas pinch ran for Harper who singled. After Douglas swiped second, she scored on an RBI single by
Taylor Kemp pushing Washburn up 3-0.
Crabtree (1-3) retired the final five Hornet (23-17) batters for the win striking out three with a pair of walks.
Harper and Kemp each had two hits as the Ichabods outhit the Hornets 8 to 3. Ruder scored twice for the Ichabods.
In the doubleheader, Harper had three hits and Kemp and Moore each had two.
