DURANT, Okla. --- The sixth-seeded Washburn women's tennis team saw its remarkable 2016-17 season come to a close with a 5-0 loss at the hands of third-seeded No. 21 Southwest Baptist.

Washburn went into the regional match short-handed after losing its No. 1 singles and doubles player,
Madeline Hill. With a five-person roster the Ichabods were forced to forfeit No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles, taking a 2-0 deficit before the opening serve.
Jacqueline Engelbrecht and
Logan Morrissey were defeated 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, followed by an 8-2 loss at the second slot by
Ally Burr and
MaKenna Gonzales.

Facing an uphill battle, the Ichabods shifted focus to singles play where
Madison Lysaught was handed a 6-1, 6-0 loss at No. 4 singles to clinch the match for SBU.

Washburn closes the book on its most successful season in recent memory after posting a 13-9 overall record. Washburn concludes its 2016-17 campaign with four netters earning all-MIAA honors, and MIAA Coach of the Year winner head coach
Lance Lysaught.
