• The Washburn Ichabods hit the road to take on Pittsburg State on Sept. 30 with kickoff scheduled for 2 p.m. from the jungle.
• Washburn is coming off a 60-28 win over Nebraska-Kearney on Sept. 23 on Family Day in Yager Stadium improving to 3-1 on the season.
• The Gorillas are 2-2 after a 45-11 loss to Lindenwood on family day at Pitt State. Lindenwood jumped out to a 31-3 lead after three quarters before the Gorillas cut the lead to 20 before allowing a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to the Lions.
• Washburn is outscoring its opponents 30-2 in the first quarter and 46-22 in the fourth quarter, but are being outscored 23-22 in the second quarter while outscoring its opponents 33 to 24 in the third quarter.
• The Ichabods have been flagged 33 times for 231 yards compared to 20 times for 166 yards for their opponents.

• The Gorillas are 2-2 after a 45-11 loss to Lindenwood on family day at Pitt State.
• Pitt State is sixth in the nation in blocked kicks leading the MIAA with four. Juanté Baldwin is fifth as an individual with two blocks.
• The Gorillas have had three different players return punts for touchdowns this season in Paul Davis, Kaden Roy and Austin Panko.
• Roy is 22nd in the nation in punt returns averaging 12.9 per attempt.
• Thomas LePage leads the team with 135 yards passing per game completing 41 of 80 attempts for five touchdowns with three interceptions.
• John Roderique has passed for 121 yards per game missing two games this season with an injury returning against Lindenwood last week. He has thrown for 242 yards completing 21 of 49 passes with two interceptions.
• Michael Rose leads the Gorillas ground game averaging 90.0 yards per game averaging 5.2 yards per carry.
• Jovon Wilson leads the team with 13 receptions averaging 34.8 yards per game receiving and Brener Clemons has 165 yards receiving on 11 catches.
• Josh Hornback leads the defense with 28 tackles including 19 solo stops.
• Simanu'a Thomas has five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks to lead the Gorillas.
• The Gorillas have the third-best scoring offense in the MIAA at 33.3 yards per game and their scoring defense is ranked eighth in the league allowing 30.5 per game.

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabods went over the 60-point mark for the first time in six years and scored in all three phases of the game rolling to a 60-28 win over Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday on Family Day in Yager Stadium.
Washburn opened the scoring on the Lopers' opening drive when Garrett Barnett-Kruger blocked UNK's punt which was recovered by
Jacob Anderson who scooped and scored from eight yards out staking the Ichabods to the 7-0 lead with 12:59 to play in the first quarter.
The teams traded punts and the Ichabod offense scored with 2:45 to play in the opening quarter when
Blake Peterson hit
Carey Woods on an 8-yard touchdown pass. After another Loper punt, Washburn scored again on 24-yard field goal by
Perry Schmiedeler with 1:57 to play as Washburn went up 17-0.
Ichabod running back
Mickeel Stewart scored on a 2-yard run with 10:14 to go in the half and then on Schmiedeler scored on the two-point conversion when Washburn came out in the swinging gate and Peterson tossed it to Schmiedeler as the Ichabods went up 25-0.
After another punt by the Lopers,
Ryan Peroo scored from 4-yards out with 5:57 remaining in the half as Washburn pushed the lead to 32-0. On the Lopers' next drive, Washburn's
D.J. Olmstead halted a 9-play drive by the Lopers picking off a Steve Worthington pass and returned it 66 yards for paydirt sending the Ichabods to a 39-0 lead at the break.
The Washburn defense held the Lopers to 51 of total offense in the first half including seven rushes for a negative-5 yards.
The Lopers (1-3, 1-3 MIAA) broke their scoreless run with 5:14 to play in the third quarter on their first drive when Isaiah Brown scored from 1-yd out.
Neither team could get anything going offensively until the Lopers scored again on a 38-yard touchdown pass play from Worthing to Sedarius Young cutting the Ichabod lead to 39-14.
With 13:29 left in the game, the Ichabods were forced to punt and Schmiedeler's 51 yard punt was muffed by George Brown and it was picked up by
Heath Tucker who landed on it in the end zone as Washburn went up 46-14.
The Lopers scored on their next possession on a 51-yard strike to Brown pulling themselves within 46-21.
Washburn scored on its net drive when Peterson hit
Austen Hubert for an 18-yard touchdown pass with 5:19 to play as Washburn went up 53-21 with 4:58 to play.
After the Lopers scored with 1:26 to go on Worthing's 8-yard pass to Alex Harms, UNK came out attempting an onside kick which was returned by
Will Hamilton to the UNK two yard line.
Matthew Harris scored on his third rushing attempt from the 1-yard line wrapping up the scoring and a 60-28 win.
The 60 points were the most scored by an Ichabod team since they put up 66 against Lincoln on Sept. 8, 2011 in a 66-14 win over the Blue Tigers.
Cedric Gonzalez led the Ichabods with a career-high 16 tackles making his first start at Washburn adding 2.0 tackles for loss. Derick McGreevy finished with 12 tackles with eight solo stops.
Peterson was 17 of 31 for 219 yards and two scores hitting
Will Hamilton with six completions for 88 yards.
Carey Woods had four catches for 38 yards and a score and
Austen Hubert had two catches for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Mickeel Stewart had 14 rushes for 38 yards and one score.
Washburn was outgained by the Lopers 373 to 313 in the game including a 278 to 126 advantage in the second half by UNK..
Last Ichabod meeting with Pittsburg State …
Oct. 1, 2016 -- TOPEKA, Kan. -- The Washburn Ichabod football lost for the first time at home this season in a 45-27 loss to Pittsburg State on Saturday in Yager Stadium.
Pittsburg State jumped on the board on the Ichabods' first play from scrimmage returning an Ichabod pass 15 yards for a pick-six.
Washburn came right back on its next drive to cut the lead to 7-3 after
Perry Schmiedeler hit a 34-yard field goal with 10:54 left in the first quarter.
Washburn would go on to take the lead with 5:52 left in the opening stanza when
Derek McGinnis found
Carey Woods on a 29-yard pass play putting Washburn up 10-7.
Schmiedeler's second field goal of the afternoon on a 40-yard kick with 8:55 left in the first half stretched the Ichabod lead to 13-7 however back to back scores by the Gorillas ending the half sent the teams to the locker room with a 21-13 lead.
Another pair of Pitt State scores in the third quarter pushed the Gorillas' margin out to 35-13 before McGinnis and Woods hooked up on another 29-yard touchdown connection trimming the lead back to 35-20.
The Gorillas added a field goal and another touchdown going up 45-20 before the Ichabods'
Logan Twehous hit
Austen Hubert in traffic on a 21-yard touchdown pass for the Ichabods' final score of the day.
The Ichabods outgained the Gorillas 491 to 365, as the Ichabods were aided by a 93-yard kickoff return for a score and two pick-six interception returns.
Washburn (3-2, 3-2 MIAA) gained 24 first downs and 24 first downs overall compared to 18 and 102 respectively for the Gorillas (4-1, 4-1 MIAA).
Washburn passed for 316 yards overall holding the Gorillas to 263.
Individually,
Mickeel Stewart rushed for 61 yards on 16 carries. McGinnis was 13 of 32 for 260 yards and two touchdowns and
Anthony Daniels, Jr., had three catches for 72 yards.
