Ichabods Look to Make MIAA Tournament Run in Lincoln, Neb.

 First Serve …
•    The Washburn women's tennis team heads into the MIAA Tournament with the fourth seed, the highest placement the Ichabods have received under head coach Lance Lysaught.
•      The Ichabods will take on the fifth-seeded Northwest Missouri Bearcats, who the Ichabods defeated 5-4 on March 7.
•  Northwest has a 23-13 all-time series advantage, which the Ichabods hope to cut into in order to advance to the conference semifinals for the second year in a row.
•    Should the Ichabods advance, they will take on the winner of the No. 1-No. 8 matchup between Northeastern State and Missouri Western.

 Week in Review …
•    The Ichabods finished off their regular season last week with a pair of victories over Rockhurst and William Woods.
•    They ended the year with a record above .500 for the second consucutive season.
•    All three doubles teams and singles slots 1-3 finished with a perfect 2-0 record for the week. The No. 1 doubles team of Logan Morrissey and Alexis Czapinski won their 16th and 17th straight games against the Hawks and Owls.
•    Now sitting at No. 4 in the ITA National Rankings, the team of Czpanski and Morrissey is now 17-1 in duals action, 25-4 overall. Those 25 wins put the duo in 4th-place in school history for wins in a single season.

 Ichabods Postseason Outlook …                                          
•    In the ITA preseason poll, the Ichabods are ranked No. 9 in the Central Region.
•    Two singles players find themselves in the ITA preseason regional rankings; Alexis Czapinski sits at No. 12, while Logan Morrissey sits at No. 15.
•    In regional doubles rankings, the team of Czapinski and Morrissey are ranked No. 5.
•    Czapinski is nationally ranked for the fifth week in a for, coming in at No. 60 in the ITA National Singles Rankings, while the aforementioned team of Czapinski/Morrissey being ranked No. 4.
•    The Ichabods are challenged with one of the toughest conferences in the country, as four teams are ranked in the national top 50; three in the top 15.
•    The Czapinski/Morrissey team is a virtual lock to receive first-team All-MIAA honors after running through conference play undefeated. Czapinski's 6-3 record at the No. 1 singles slot, as well as Jacqueline Engelbrecht's 6-0 record at the No. 3 slot gives them strong cases for All-MIAA recognition as well.

 Making Adjustments …
•      With Logan Morrissey starting the year at No. 2, and Jacqueline Engelbrecht starting at No. 3, the two have swapped slots with success, as they are both 4-1 in their new respective positions.
•    After pairing with Madeline Hill at the No. 1 doubles slot last season, Engelbrecht has found her spot at No. 2 doubles, and is currently 11-7 on the season.
•    Logan Morrissey has found massive amounts of success after bumping up to No. 1 doubles, boasting a 25-4 record on the season with partner Alexis Czapinski.

 Successful Fall …
•  The Ichabods had multiple first-place finishes in fall season tournaments, including sweeping each singles bracket at the Wheatstate Fall Classic.
•    Alexis Czapinski also won the singles bracket in the Bearcat Invitational, hosted by Northwest Missouri State.

 Impressive ITA Showings …
•     Czapinski and Morrisey each made the round of 16 in the regional singles tournament, as well as the duo making it to the quarterfinal round of the doubles tournament.

 New Faces …                                                                     
•    Czapinski, in her first spring with the Ichabods, is racking up impressive victories on both the singles and doubles sides. She is 24-7 on the year in singles, and 25-4 in doubles. Those totals would have her in the top 10 of each category's single-season wins list.
•     The Ichabods have a new assistant coach in Matt Barlow. As part of the men's tennis team from 2014-2017, he racked up numerous conference honors, and was a two-time team MVP for Washburn.
