Scouting the Opponents
Northwest MissouriÂ
Series history: Since their first meeting in Washburn soccer's inaugural season in 2003, the Ichabods are 13-5-4. The latest WU victory came in 2016 when they shut out NWMSU 2-0.
Scouting report: The Bearcats entered the 2018 campaign under new leadership as Marc Gordon took over at the helm. The team is currently 1-6 after winning its season opener against William Jewell 2-1.
Northwest has had a difficult time scoring as they have been shut out in three games and outscored 19-5. Mollie Holtman has netted two goals while taking just five shots, four of which have been on goal, for a .800 SOG percentage. Joanna Shaw and Madie Krueger have scored one goal apiece. Emily Madden leads in assists with two and Adrie Gunn has recorded one assist.
Alexis Serna Castillo has spent the majority of time in the net. In five games, she has pulled down 31 saves and allowed 11 goals.Â
Missouri Western
Series history: The Ichabods hold a 12-7 all-time series lead over the Griffons since their first meeting in 2005. MWSU won the last match-up 1-0 back in 2016.
Scouting report: Missouri Western entered the new season picked for a second place finish after reaching the MIAA Championship game in 2017. The Griffons are off to a 5-3 start and are 0-1 in conference play.Â
The Griffons are led in goals by Cassidy Menke, who has netted three. She also leads the team in shot attempts, taking 27 with 14 of those on goal. Also scoring for MWSU, Ashley Mathis and Claire Meyers have both found the back of the net on two occasions. Five other players have scored one goal. Seven different players have recorded one assist for the Griffons.
Freshman keeper, Anna Mayer, has had a strong start to the season. Mayer has made 40 saves and allowed six goals for a .870 save percentage. Her most notable game thus far has been saving 11 shots and shutting out reigning national champions Central Missouri 1-0 last week. That game marked the first time a team has held UCM without a goal since October of 2015. For her efforts, she was awarded MIAA Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
