NOTES | Baseball opens MIAA slate at Lindenwood

LEADING OFF
» Washburn is set to end its 13-game road swing this weekend as it opens MIAA play against Lindenwood. It's the Ichabods first trip to the Lou Brock Sports Complex since 2017 and their final conference regular season trip as the Lions will exit the conference after this season.
» The three-game set is slated to open Friday, with game two on Saturday and the series finale scheduled for Sunday, each game is set for 1 pm.

A LOOK AT LINDENWOOD
» Lindenwood began the week at 5-7 and is coming off a two-game set where it split with defending national champion Augustana (S.D.). The  Lions were an overall 26-24 last season and 16-20 in MIAA play. 

THEY GOT HISTORY
» Heading into this weekend's series, Washburn and faced off 20 times over the last six seasons, with the Ichabods holding an 11-9 lead.
» Washburn won the series, 2-1, last season but were swept in its last trip to St. Charles in 2017.

YARD WORK
» Washburn began the season with a home run in four consecutive games and have since homered in six of nine games thus far. 
» The Ichabods are 31st in Division II in home run (10) and 34th overall in home runs per game with 1.11. 
» Half of all Washburn home runs have come from the lead off spot. 
» Brady Hoover is eighth among NCAA Division II leaders and first in the MIAA with four home runs.
» Wyatt Featherston's two home runs has him listed 86th nationally, and eighth among league leaders.
» On Feb. 8, Mark Wanner introduced him in style, notching a pinch-hit two-run home run in his first career at-bat at Southeastern Oklahoma.
» In the last four seasons, Washburn has homered 193 times, with each campaign ranking among the program's Top 10 single-season records including a 69 home run outburst in 2016 for second all-time. 

DOUBLE PLAY BALL
» Washburn has turned 11 double plays, good for first in the MIAA and fourth-most in Division II. 
» Washburn has twice turned a season-high three double plays, first at Southeastern Oklahoma (2/9) then versus Rockhurst (2/13).
» Since 2015, the Washburn defense has turned 164 double plays including a program-best 57 during the 2016 campaign. 

THIEVES!
» Washburn is fourth among the MIAA in stolen bases (14) and steal attempts (19) with a success rate of .737. Last season the Ichabods were fifth in both categories, posting 70 steals and 94 attempts.
» Xavier De Leon, Featherston and Steven Jacobson currently share the team lead with three steals apiece. De Leon is 3-for-3, while Featherston and Jacobson are each 3-for-4.

ON THE MOUND
» Josh Ramirez and Nick Sloan are among just nine pitchers in the MIAA with two wins thus far as both carry a 2-0 record.
» Sloan tops the MIAA and Division II ERA leader board as he began the weekend with a 0.00 earned run average.
» Ramirez is 10th among MIAA arms in innings pitched (13.2) while Sloan is 12th overall at 13.0.
» Nathan Lorenzen's strikeouts per nine inning (10.00) rating is 17th-best among MIAA leaders. 
» Braden Minor and Lorenzen each have a save this season.

#PROBODS UPDATE
» Former Ichabod slugger Riley Krane (2014-17) is set for his second full season in the Frontier League in 2019 when he suits for the Joliet Slammers. Krane is hitting a .248 for his career with eight dingers, 52 RBI in 123 game s played. 
» Former Washburn hurler Brett Ash announced his retirement from  professional baseball. Ash played four seasons as a member of the Seattle Mariners farm system. He was a career 30-27 in the minors with a 4.94 ERA. In 2016, he helped the Jackson Generals (AA) to a Southern League crown as he went 12-8 on the year.

WASHBURN BASEBALL HISTORY
» The Washburn baseball program began in 1947 and played every season since with the exception of 1951-56, returning 1957 under the direction of head coach Marion McDonald. 
» In 1985, head coach Steve Anson recorded the program's first 30-win season as the Ichabods went 33-20.
» Washburn baseball has been home to many talented alumni with some being able to take their talents to the Majors ... to date, their have been six former Ichabods who have played a regular-season or playoff game for an MLB club including George Darrow, Rick DeHart, Jerad Head, Davey Lopes, Jerry Robertson and Steve Simpson.
» Six Ichabods have been chosen in the MLB Amateur Draft with catcher David Gauntt being selected most recently (Miami Marlins, 2016, Rd. 18).
