NOTES | Women's Hoops at Lincoln

THE TIP-OFF
Washburn wraps up its road schedule on Saturday as the as the Ichabods (17-8, 12-4 MIAA) face Lincoln. The matchup, set for a 1 pm tip at Jason Gym, is the second meeting of the season as the Ichabods won the first showdown, 79-73, at Lee Arena earlier this season. In its previous 28 meetings with Lincoln, the Ichabods are unbeaten dating back the first meeting in 1980.

ON THE CALL
Saturday's game will be streamed online through The MIAA Network (themiaanetwork.com/washburnichabods) or on The MIAA Network app available on Apple TV, Roku and GooglePlay. The contest can also be heard by turning your radio dial to KTPK 106.9 FM in Topeka or by visiting wusports.com/live for a streamed link for those outside the Topeka area. Jake Lebahn (play-by-play) and Dan Lucero (commentary) will call the action with the pregame show starting 20 minutes prior to tip-off.

PREVIEWING LINCOLN
The Blue Tigers are 10-15 on the year with a 2-14 mark against MIAA opponents. Lincoln is shooting at .414-clip (648-of-1564) from the field this season  with 108-of-388 (.278) from three-point distance. Opponents are shooting .402 (570-of-1419) from the field against Lincoln this season, with .296 (174-of-587) from the outside. Zhanesha Dickerson paces the Blue Tigers in scoring (17.0 ppg) and on the glass with 8.2 rebounds per game. Dickerson is averaging 21 points in the last five games. Bre Coleman and Zoi Thompson also average double-figure points netting 13.9 and 13.0, respectively. Thompson has a team-best 101 assists (4.2/game). 

PREVIOUSLY ON...
In the first meeting of the season, the Ichabods topped Lincoln, 79-73. The Blue Tigers led 18-13 after the first, but it was all Ichabods from there as they lead 41-30 at the half. Reagan Phelan led a quartet of double-figure scorers with a team-best 20 points. Taylor Blue and Shelbe Piggie each finished with 17. Alexis McAfee added 11 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Lincoln was led by Coleman's 28 points while Dickerson had 27.

SHARED SCORING

The Ichabods average 67.9 points this season, but in their last three games are netting 70.7 points per game. In that three-game stretch, the offense is performing better their season averages, shooting at a .440-clip (85-of-193), with .383 (23-of-60) from deep.
» During the last three-games, Washburn's starting five are averaging double-digit points. Taylor Blue leads the way 16.7 points. Hunter Bentley follows with 14.7, with Nicole Murugarren, Alexis McAfee and Reagan Phelan averaging 13.0, 10.7 and 10.0, respectively.

REAGAN MAKING MOVES, UP THE CHARTS
On Feb. 6, Phelan became the Washburn's 23rd member of the 1,000-point club and first since Laura Kinderknecht during the 2012-13 season. Phelan began the week with 1,038 career points, good for 18th on the all-time list. All-American Corkey Stiger stands nine points ahead of Phelan at 1,047 with Lori Roenbaugh at 16th with 1,067. Phelan also continues her ascent up the three-point charts, after passing the great Brenda Shaffer-Dahl on Saturday for 10th all-time with 112 made three-pointers. Just ahead of Phelan is Casyn Buchman with 113 threes is ninth all-time, while Alison Garrett is listed eighth with 120 career three-pointers. 

ROAD WARRIORS
The Ichabods are 5-2 this season when playing in the Show Me State and 7-2 overall when on the road. Shooting .471 (51-of-130) from the field and .392 (71-of-104) from distance, Washburn is averaging 73.0 points a game, while the defense is holding hosts to an average 63.1 per game.

FINAL FIVE MINUTES
In the final 300 seconds of regulation, Washburn is shooting .420 (81-of-193) from the floor with an impressive .378 (28-of-74) from three-point land, while converting 56-of-77 (.727) attempts from the line. Conversely, opponents are shooting .349 (65-of-186) and .270 (17-of-63) from deep. As a result, the Ichabods are 13-1 when leading in the final minutes. At the line, Phelan is 16-for-22 (.727), while Bentley is 11-for-15 (.733). McAfee however leads the way converting 12-of-15 (.800).

HISTORY MAC-KER
On Dec. 18, with a decisive victory over Embry-Riddle (Fla.), head coach Ron McHenry surpassed Patty Dick as the all-time leader wins as he notched No. 432. McHenry's latest accomplishment comes nearly two seasons after notching his 400th career win. Now in his 19th season with Washburn, McHenry has eight MIAA titles with 12 trips to the NCAA Championship plus Washburn's only NCAA national title (2005).

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY
The 2018-19 academic year marks the 50th season of women's athletics at Washburn University, which began with volleyball, basketball, softball, field hockey and gymnastics. Although, field hockey and gymnastics are no longer available, the offerings for female student-athletes has grown to eight sports with the addition of soccer, tennis, and cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field.

UP NEXT
Washburn will close the 2018-19 season next week at home as it hosts Northwest Missouri on Thursday before welcoming Missouri Western for the senior finale on Saturday, March 2. The Ichabods have already secured a spot in the MIAA Tournament, which will run from March 6-10, with all games this season will be held at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
