- The 24th-ranked Washburn women's tennis team (9-1) will wrap up their six-match homestand on Friday, March 15, as they host Harding.
- The match is scheduled to take place at the Washburn Tennis Complex with a first serve coming at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out …
- The Ichabods swept Central College (Division III) on Tuesday, March 12, and extended their winning streak to four.
- Washburn quickly grabbed the doubles point with victories on all three courts.
- The teams of Alexis Czapinski/Logan Morrissey and Svea Crohn/Jacqueline Engelbrecht blanked their opponents 6-0 while MaKenna Gonzales and Ally Burr made their spring debut at No. 3 doubles with a 6-1 win.
- The Ichabods continued to dominate in singles play and shutout the Dutch in straight sets at the first four positions down the lineup.
- Engelbrecht, Czapinski, Morrissey, and Crohn all added to their individual win columns with 6-0, 6-0 victories.
- At No. 5 singles, Madison Lysaught topped her opponent, 6-0, 6-2.
- Kinsey Fields completed the scoring for Washburn at the sixth slot with a 6-0, 6-3 win.
- The Ichabods moved to 9-1 on the season while the Dutch fell to 8-7.
Scouting the Opposition …
Harding Lady Bison
- The Harding Lady Bison went 15-8 overall and 3-3 in the Great American Conference last season.
- The team entered the 2019 regular season ranked fourth in the Central region and were tabbed second in the GAC.
- Harding is off to a 9-1 start, with half of their victories coming by way of sweeps.
- The team's last two victories were 7-0 sweeps over Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State.
- David Redding is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Harding men's and women's teams. His women's teams have posted a total 51-25 record during his tenure.
- This will be the first ever meeting between these two teams.
Ichabods in the Rankings …
- Washburn is ranked 24th in the nation.
- This is the first time the team has appeared in the top-25 ITA rankings since 2007, when Washburn was ranked 25th in all of Division II.
- As a team, the Ichabods are ranked No. 6 in the Central Region.
- Reflecting their finish at the ITA National Cup, Morrissey and Czapinski will begin the season as the third-ranked doubles team in all of Division II.
- Additionally, the duo also holds down the top ranking in the Central Region.
- Individually, Engelbrecht is ranked fouth in the region and 28th in the nation.
- Czapinski also joins the region's top-10 list at No. 9 in women's singles.
- Washburn was picked fourth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
'Bods and ends …
- The Ichabods have posted 7-0 sweeps in three of the past four matches.
- The team has also won 23 of the last 24 singles matches.
- Czapinski picked up her seventh career MIAA Athlete of the Week award on March 11th. She has already received the honor four of the five times it has been awarded this season.
- After her match against Central College, Czapinski improved to a perfect 10-0 at No. 2 singles. She holds an overall record singles of 14-2.
- Morrissey and Lysaught reached double-digits in their season singles record with wins against Central College. They are both 10-5 overall.
- Morrissey and Engelbrecht are both one win away from notching their 50th career singles victories.
- Fields, a freshman, made her first singles appearance of the spring and added a win to her career total.
Coach Lance Lysaught …
- is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Washburn men's and women's tennis teams.
- has coached the Washburn women to a 46-45 overall record and is 16-22 in MIAA matches.
- led the Ichabod men to the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round in 2018, the first time the program had ever advanced beyond the national round of 16.
- was tabbed to start up the men's and women's tennis programs at Ottawa University in 2012 where he was the head coach for two seasons.
- is a former Washburn student-athlete who played tennis for the Ichabods from 1987-91.
- was a two-time District 10 singles champion and an NAIA national qualifier in both singles and doubles over his tenure as a player.
