Soccer kicks off 2019 campaign on the road

  • Oklahoma Baptist on Thurs., Sept. 5 at 6:00 p.m.
Take a Look Ahead
  • The Ichabods kick off the 2019 season on the road against Oklahoma Baptist University on Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
  • Washburn soccer will play the Lady Bison for the second in program history.
  • The Ichabods were picked ninth in the 2019 MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
Quick Kicks
  • The team return 20 letter winners from the 2018 season 
  • Head Coach Davy Phillips enters his third season with the Ichabods.
  • Phillips is 2-0 in opening matches as head coach of the Ichabods.
  • This will be the first time since 2016 that Washburn not will start the season with back to back matches against Upper Iowa and SMSU.
  • The Ichabods are 2-2 on Thursday night season opening match.
Ichabod vs. Lady Bison
  • Ichabods last faced the Bison on Sept. 8, 2018 in Yager Stadium
  • The match in 2018 was the first meeting between the two teams.
  • The Lady Bison won 4-1 over the Ichabods in 2018.
  • It was a beautiful day in Topeka, Kan. on Sept. 8, 2018, with clear skies and a high of 75 degrees.
  • Olivia Grasso is the only Ichabod soccer to ever score on the Lady Bison.
  • In this match both teams will have a Halle Hill on their roster.
Heading into the Season
  • Three All-MIAA Third Team members will return to the roster; Tera Lynch, Josie Rimmer and Olivia Grasso.
  • 2019 roster holds the largest sophomore class (11)
  • Leading scorer Olivia Grasso returns for senior season.
  • Seven freshmen will join the Ichabods. She scored six goals for the Ichabods.

Last Time Out
  • Ichabods were defeated by Central Oklahoma, 4-1, in the 2018 MIAA Quarterfinals.
  • Olivia Grasso assisted Paige Swanson for the lone goal.
  • Ichabods tallied six shots on goal and nine saves during the match.
2018 Game Recap - Sept. 8, 2018
The Ichabods fell 4-1 in the home opener against the Oklahoma Baptist Lady Bison. With the loss, Washburn is at an even 2-2 on the season. Olivia Grasso scored the one goal with help from Ryanne Serrone-Brown. Both teams ended the game with nine shots apiece, but WU led in shots on goal 7-6.

Scouting the Lady Bison

Oklahoma Baptist was picked first in the 2019 Great American Conference Coaches' Preseason Poll after winning the 2018 conference title. The Lady Bison finished the season with an overall record of 15-5-1. The team made it to the Division II Central Regional but fell short to Central Oklahoma with a score of 2-0. Oklahoma Baptist will return their three top scorers senior Ruth King, junior Hannah White and Sophomore Tori Kitchel. The Lady Bisonwill also return goal-keeper and first-team All-GAC selection,  junior Emily Grififth.
