Box Score JOPLIN, Mo. – The Washburn baseball team fell in the series finale against No. 25 Missouri Southern on Sunday afternoon, 12-5. The Ichabods will return home to take on Pittsburg State starting Friday, March 13. First pitch at Falley Field is set for 4 p.m.
Missouri Southern (16-4, 3-3 MIAA) jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the first inning.
The Ichabods (11-11, 3-3 MIAA) cut the Lions' lead to 3-2 in the second inning.
Peter Shearer led off the frame with a single up the middle.
Michael Oyervides drew a walk to put runners at first and second with one out.
Mark Wanner plated Shearer with a single to left field. Back-to-back wild pitches committed by Missouri Southern moved the runners up and scored Oyervides.
The Lions extended their lead with four runs in the second inning and then three more in the third to go up, 10-2.
In the top of the sixth,
Tyler Clark-Chiapparelli legged out his fourth triple of the season and drove in Shearer and
Parker Dunn to make it 10-4.
Missouri Southern added one more run in the home half of the sixth on a solo home run. Both teams each added one more final run in the eighth inning.
Shearer finished the day with a single, two walks, and scored three runs. Dunn hit a double, his sixth of the year, and scored once.
