Washburn Wednesday: Trey Lewis tabbed in NFL Draft

Note: As spring sports have been canceled this semester, the athletic communication office will be adding a weekly Washburn Wednesday to the website.
With the NFL Draft coming up this weekend and Ichabod offensive lineman Kyle Hinton being projected as a sixth or seventh round selection, we will be looking back at the first Ichabod to be drafted after playing for Ichabod head coach Craig Schurig when Trey Lewis was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in 2007. Lewis was enshrined the Washburn Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

Since Lewis' became the first Ichabod who played for Schurig at Washburn, the Ichabods have had two others including Super Bowl Champion Cary Williams by the Tennessee Titans with the 22nd pick in the seventh round in 2009 and most recently Corey Ballentine with the seventh pick in the sixth round in 2019 by the New York Giants last season.

The date was April 29, 2007
NEW YORK, N.Y. - Washburn's Trey Lewis became the third Ichabod (at the time) to ever hear his named called in the NFL Draft as he was selected in the sixth round by the Atlanta Falcons as the 185th overall pick.
"The coaching staff, players, former players, fans and everyone else associated with the Washburn football team are thrilled for Trey and his family." said Ichabod head coach Craig Schurig.
