TUCSON, Ariz. – The Washburn Ichabods scored in their first at bat rolling to a 9-0 win over the Academy of Art on Sunday in their final game of the Desert Stinger Classic. Washburn (3-6) returns to play much closer to home as they will open the Emporia State Classic on Friday at 10 a.m. against Concordia-St. Paul.
Marrit Mead led off the game with a walk and after swiping second moved to third on
Autymn Schreiner singled driving in Mead. After a single by
Hadley Kerschen and
Jaden LaBarge reached on an error,
Ashton Friend singled to center scoring Schreiner.
The Ichabods added three runs in the fourth inning capped by a two-run homer by LaBarge scoring Schreiner who doubled sending Mead home after she singled.
The Ichabods added four more in the fifth going up 9-0 sending eight to the plate.
Maddie Stipsits,
Kaylee Wagner and Schreiner all singled with Wagner picking up an RBI sending Stipsits home. Kerschen hit an inside the park home run scoring Schreiner as the Ichabods picked up the win.
Jaycee Ginter struck out seven Urban Knights pitching four scoreless innings improving to 2-1 in the circle and
Raegen Hamm pitched the final inning retiring the side in order.
Schreiner was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI scoring three runs to lead the Ichabod 12-hit attack. Mead, Kerschen and Friend each had two hits.
