ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. --The No. 15 seed Ichabods face off against the second seed in Central Oklahoma in the NCAA Round of 16 on Tuesday, May 17 at 3 p.m.

- Crohn tied Washburn's single-season doubles winning percentage mark of .895 last season
- Fields has a career singles record of 21-11 and 46-22 doubles record in three seasons. She has earned All-MIAA Honorable Mention at No. 2 doubles twice, MIAA Academic Honor Roll three times and was an MIAA Scholar-Athlete
- Sydnee Foster in her third year holds a 9-6 singles record and 6-5 in doubles action. She is a two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll, an ITA Scholar-Athlete and earned the Academic Excellence award

- Freshman Issabella Pensavalle comes from Jenks High School, where she placed fourth in the state her freshman year. She is 5-2 in singles and 1-0 in doubles to begin her career
- St. Edward's transfer Lara Schmid is 12-9 in singles play and 16-6 in doubles action as an Ichabod. Schmid achieved First Team All-MIAA at No. 5 singles and Honorable Mention at No. 1 doubles
- Marta Torres has a 27-20 singles record, and a 34-10 doubles record in less than two seasons. She received All-MIAA Second Team at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles and is a 2021 ITA Scholar-Athlete

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

HOW WE GOT HERE
- The Ichabods defeated two ranked opponents in the NCAA Central Regional hosted by Augustana
- In the first round, Washburn swept No. 3 seed Southeastern Oklahoma, 4-0
- Fields/Jung won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles and Crohn./Torres won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point
- Schmid defeated Georgia Hosking by retirement at No. 4 singles, Jung topped Sara Gonzalez, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3 singles, and Fields clinched with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles
- The Ichabods then took down No. 2 seed Augustana, 4-3. Fields once again clinched the victory
IN HER FIELDS
- Fields is 9-3 in singles and 14-7 in doubles
- Her nine wins in singes is a career-season high, topping her five singles wins in 2019-20

LAST MATCH AGAINST Central Oklahoma
TOPEKA, Kan. – In a battle for the MIAA women's tennis regular-season title, The No. 50 Ichabods fell to No. 4 Central Oklahoma, 7-0. The Ichabods claim the second seed in the MIAA tournament from April 29-May 1.
The match started in favor of Washburn (13-10) as the No. 3 doubles team, Svea Crohn and Marta Torres, took down the 49th-ranked doubles team, Nikki Boyar and Blythe Buntrock, 6-4. The win marks Torres and Crohn's first ranked win in doubles and moves them to 16-3 on the season.
Central Oklahoma (17-1) evened doubles play with a tightly contested match at No. 1 doubles. Lara Schmid and Isabella Martensson went back-and-forth with the No. 1 doubles team in a 6-3 loss. The Bronchos earned the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at no. 2 doubles.Â
In singles play, the Bronchos won the first four matches in straight sets to clinch the victory and the MIAA title. Torres battled against the No. 3 ranked Mae Canete at No. 1 singles in a 6-4, 6-3 loss.
At No. 4 singles, Schmid dropped the first set 6-1, then forced a third-set super tiebreaker with a 6-4 second-set win. However, Schmid would lose 10-4 in the tiebreaker. Cadence Lynn started strong with a 6-1 set-one victory at the sixth position. Unfortunately, Lynn lost the next two sets, 6-2, 7-5, to finish the match.
The Ichabods are back in action as the No. 2 seed in the MIAA Tournament from April 29-30 at Edmond Center Courts. Washburn plays the No. 7 seed in Emporia State in the quarterfinals on April 29 at 10 a.m.

Ichabods Head Coach Kirby Ronning
- Kirby Ronning is in his second season as the Washburn head tennis coach for the Ichabods men's and women's programs after being named to the position on July 23, 2020.Â
- Ronning has compiled a 28-10 men's record and a 33-14 women's record while coaching at Washburn
- Led the women's team to the NCAA Round of 16 in his second season. It is just the second time in the program's history
- Prior to Washburn, Ronning spent four seasons as the assistant coach at Azusa Pacific, where he helped lead the Cougars to multiple NCAA postseason appearances and earned himself both ITA West Region's Men's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year and Women's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year
- He earned his bachelor's degree in business from Bethel University (Minn) in 2014 and his master's in physical education from Azusa Pacific in May 2020.
- Ronning also played at Bethel for four years, playing primarily at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles position.
Scouting the Bronchos
- No. 4 Central Oklahoma is 21-1 overall and 8-0 in the MIAA. The Bronchos are 6-1 against ranked opponents including wins over No. 5 Columbus State and No. 7 Indianapolis
- The Bronchos' lone loss was to No. 1 Barry in the ITA Indoor Championship
- The Bronchos' roster has a good mix of veterans and young talent. The roster includes a graduate, two juniors, three sophomores, and three freshmen
- Central Oklahoma sports five players with double-digit singles wins and four with 10-plus doubles wins
- The Bronchos also received six All-MIAA First Team honors, one All-MIAA Second Team honors and two All-MIAA Honorable Mention honors
- Two-time MIAA Player of the Year Adel-Byanu Abidullina has not lost a singles match all season (17-0) and is 18-1 in doubles. Abidullina earned All-MIAA First Team honors at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles
- At the top of the lineup are the Canete sisters, Mae and Christine
- Mae as a sophomore moved to No. 1 singles and doubles. She is 18-2 in singles and 16-2 in doubles with her sister. She was unanimously selected as MIAA Player of the Year and selected to the All-MIAA First Team at No. 1 singles and doubles
- Christine Canete is a freshman and has already grabbed No. 2 singles. She is 15-1 in singles and 16-2 in doubles. She was named MIAA Freshman of the Year and earned All-MIAA First Team honors at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles
- Abidullina's doubles partner Tizia Brocks is 12-5 in singles in her first season. Brocks is also a member of the All-MIAA Second Team at No. 5 singles.
- Freshman Grace Chadick is 14-5 in singles and 2-0 in doubles. Chadick earned All-MIAA First Team at No. 4 singles
- Blythe Buntrock received All-MIAA Honorable Mention at No. 6 singles after a 9-3 season. She also earned All-MIAA Honorable Mention at No. 3 doubles with Brocks with an 8-4 record
Bronchos Head Coach Joe Vann
- Joe Vann is in his first season head coaching the women's tennis program at Central Oklahoma
- Vann came to UCO from UT Tyler, where he spent four seasons as the assistant coach for both men's and women's programs
- During his tenure at Tyler, he helped capture five American Southwest Conference championships and made three trips to the NCAA regional semis
- Vann is a graduate of UT Tyler. He earned ALL-ASC honors both on the court and in the classroom
- Between stints at Tyler, he helped start the East Texas Baptist tennis programs in 2012
- Prior to ETBU, Vann was the assistant tennis coach and director of the tennis academy at Austin Peay State
