LEXINGTON, Ky. – Washburn volleyball fell four places to No. 6 in the latest AVCA top-25 poll after going 1-1 last week. The Ichabods will play the next five matches on the road starting at Central Oklahoma on Thursday evening.
Washburn started last week with a sweep at Emporia State to improve its overall record to 11-0 before closing out the week with a four-set loss to then-ranked No. 13 Northwest Missouri in Lee Arena.
As a team, the Ichabods rank in the top-three in the MIAA in hitting percentage (.245/second), kills per set (13.42/third), and in service aces (94/first).
Jalyn Stevenson leads the offense with 125 kills and averages 2.91 kills per set.
Halle Meister has 107 kills and is second in the league and 18th in Division II with a .408 attacking percentage. The back court defense is led by
Sydney Pullen (179 digs – 4.26 digs/set) and
Sophie McMullen (147 digs – 3.42 digs/set).
There was a lot of movement in the top-five as Wayne State (14-0) took over the No. 1 ranking and received 42 first-place votes and 1,137 total points. MSU Denver (11-1), Concordia-St. Paul (10-2), and St. Cloud State (12-0) all bumped up two places to land at Nos. 2-4. Previously top-ranked Tampa (10-1) suffered its first loss and now rounds out the top-five with 983 points and four first-place votes. The Ichabods totaled 974 points and had one first-place vote.
Washburn is one of four MIAA programs represented in the national poll. Nebraska-Kearney (12-1) stayed put at No. 8 while Northwest Missouri (9-3) moved up two spots to No. 11. Central Missouri (7-4) moved down one place to No. 17 and Central Oklahoma continues to receive votes.
