EMPORIA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod women's track and field team competed in the Emporia State Midwest Classic and returned to Topeka with five personal bests, two NCAA provisional marks and six top-10 finishes on Sunday. The Ichabods will be in action next weekend at the Rock Chalk Classic at Kansas on Saturday.
The Ichabods went 1-2 in the shot put with
Shanice Hutson winning the event with an NCAA provisional mark of 14.30m (46-11.00) while
Ilaria Villa was second with a mark of 13.93m (45-08.50) for a personal best. Hutson also led the Ichabods in the discus with a fifth-place finish with a mark of 43.42m (142-05).
Washburn's
Paola Castaldi was third in the hammer throw with a distance of 53.15m (174-04) for an NCAA provisional mark.
As a team the Ichabods were ninth combined team points.
