Washburn Ichabod women's track and field squad takes 5th at MIAA Championships

PITTSBURG, Kan. - -The Washburn Ichabod women's track and field team closed the MIAA Championships with multiple podium finishes, a conference individual title, and strong relay performances on the final day of competition, finishing fifth in the team standings with 75.5 points.

Lexie Fontaine delivered one of the top performances of the meet for the Ichabods, accounting for 18 team points on the final day. Fontaine captured the MIAA championship in the 1,500m with a time of 4:34.86, setting a stadium record and earning 10 points. Earlier in the day, Fontaine was earned All-MIAA honors in the 800m after finishing second in 2:11.27 to add eight more points.

Kyla Lochtefeld added another All-MIAA performance in the 5,000m, placing third with a time of 17:30.33 to score six points for Washburn. Riley Britton finished 13th in 18:13.40, while Grace Collins placed 20th after crossing in 18:36.07.

In the sprint events, Mellanie Neudinger placed fifth in the 200m, setting a personal-best time of 24.02 to earn four points. Maya Pattison finished ninth in the 100-meter final with a time of 12.05.

The Ichabods also points in the 400m, as Kereser Augustin placed eighth in 55.88 to score one point, with Isabella Garcia finishing ninth at 56.99.
Ashley Heavner added to the scoring in the 400m hurdles, placing sixth with a time of 1:04.01 to contribute three points.

Washburn posted a pair of strong relay performances to close the meet. The 4x100-meter relay team of Lyric Reid, Pattison, Neudinger, and Layla Lerus finished fourth in 45.76, scoring five points and earning an NCAA provisional qualifying time. The 4x400-meter relay of Garcia, Naiuri Krein, Fontaine, and Augustin also placed fourth, crossing the line in 3:45.12 to add five more points.

In the field events, Theresa Osei placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.81m (38-08.00) to score four points. Adriel Holloway matched that effort in the shot put, finishing fifth with a throw of 13.84m (45-05.00) to earn four points. Krein placed 11th in the shot put at 12.57m (41-03.00).

Washburn finished fifth overall at the championships behind Pittsburg State, Missouri Southern, Northwest Missouri State, and Central Missouri.
