PUEBLO, Colo. – The Washburn Track and Field throwing squad collected four All-American awards on Friday with
Braden Rose earning first team honors after finishing sixth in the men's discus. The final day of the NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships will take place on Saturday with five Ichabods competing.
Rose earned his third All-American award and achieved his first-ever first team honor after placing sixth in the discus by breaking his own school record with a throw of 54.05m. He finished ninth in the hammer throw on the first day of this year's championships and was 10th in the discus last season.
Mitch Miller also competed in the discus and finished 12th overall to earn second team honors with a mark of 50.51m.
There were also two Ichabods in the women's discus and the Washburn freshman duo of
Ilaria Villa and
Shanice Hutson finished back-to-back to earn second team All-American accolades. Villa was just outside the first team top-eight finishers with a ninth-place finish and recorded a personal-best throw of 47.69m. Hutson was close behind checking in at 10th with a mark of 46.62m.
Naiuri Krein finished out the heptathlon in 14th
place totaling 4311 points.
