Ichabod women's track and field finishes 7th at MIAA Championships

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod women's track and field team scored 70 points en route to a seventh-place finish at the MIAA Outdoor Championships finishing the three-day event on Sunday in Jefferson City, Mo. at Lincoln University. Washburn had two event winners on Sunday as well as three NCAA provisional marks.

Shanice Hutson finished first in the discus with a mark of 44.76m (146-10) for 10 points and then was second on Sunday in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 14.48m (47-06.00) for eight team points scoring 18 of the Ichabods' 70 points.

Lily Johnson brought back and individual title in the 1500m in a time of 4:38.65 to score 10 points for the Ichabods.

Ilaria Villa finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 42.99m (141-01) for five points and added six points in the shot put with a mark of 13.30m (43-07.50) for three team points. 

Isabella Hohl scored 7.5 points with a fourth-place finish in the 100m in a time of 11.42 for five points and a seventh-place finish in the 200m finish for two points in a pair of NCAA provisional performances. She also anchored the 4x400m relay team helping to add two points to the team total with a time of 3:50.83 with teammates Kereser Augustin, Ashley Heavner and Katelyn Jones.

In the 400m, Kereser Augustin finished seventh with a time of 56.90 for a personal best scoring two team points.

Northwest Missouri edged-out Pittsburg State for the team title with 137 points and the Gorillas recording 133.50. Fort Hays State was third with 108 points followed by Lincoln (85), Missouri Southern (84), Central Missouri (82.50) and Washburn (70). Nebraska-Kearney was eighth with 52 points with Missouri Western (36), Emporia State (23), Central Oklahoma (4) and Rogers State in 12th with three points.

Of Washburn's 70 team points, 30 came from the throwers with the distance runners scoring 16 and the sprinters scoring nine.

Washburn is scheduled for its final regular season meet of the year next week at the Loper Last Chance qualifier on May 13 prior to NCAA bids are announced the following week for the NCAA D2 Championships May 25-27 in Pueblo, Colo.
