LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Washburn Ichabod volleyball team has been honored for its work in the classroom by the American Volleyball Coaches Association along with the United State Marine Corps. Washburn was one of seven schools from the MIAA to receive the award.

Following the 2022-23 school year, the Ichabods had a combined team grade point average of 3.5 after a spring 2023 team GPA of 3.6.

The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
 
MIAA teams to receive the honor were Central Missouri, Central Oklahoma, Fort Hays State, Missouri Southern, Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri and Washburn.

The Ichabods begin the 2023 campaign with eight matches on the road starting at the Florida Southern Tournament from Aug. 31-Sept. 3. Washburn will open its home slate hosting the Washburn Invitational Sept. 7-9 in Lee Arena.
