Ichabod men's track and field squad in 2nd entering final day of MIAA Championships

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod men's track and field team is in second place with six of 18 events scored entering the final day of the 2024 MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility. The first events begin at 12 p.m.
 
The squad had three student athletes earn all-MIAA honors on Saturday by finishing in the top three of their event. Matthew Heckman and Jordan Dale went 2-3 in the high jump as both set new personal bests breaking the school record at the same time. Both cleared 2.13m (6-11.75) besting the previous school record by a quarter inch. Heckman earned eight points and Dale earned six points and Allesandro DiGregorio finished sixth scoring three team points. All three jumps were NCAA provisional marks and Heckman and Dale's jumps were ranked tenth in the nation this season.
 
Braden Rose finished second in the weight throw breaking his own school record with a mark of 22.42m (73-06.75) for the second-longest throw in the D2 ranks this season. Rose picked up 10 points for the Ichabods in the event.
 
Also scoring points for the Ichabods on Saturday was Josh Hopkins with a sixth-place finish in the high jump earning three points with an NCAA provisional mark of 7.23m (23-08.75).
 
The Washburn heptathletes recorded six team points with Pau Borillo-Febrer scoring five points with a fourth-place finish and Drew McGilton scoring one point after finishing eighth.
 
Donal Kibet scored two points with a seventh-place finish in the 5000m run in a time of 14:58.90.
 
The distance medley relay team of Sebastiaan Horselenberg, Jeremy Garcia, Rafael Montemayor, Paul Kamp finished eighth in a time of 10:22.37 picking up one team point.
 
Pittsburg State is leading the men's side with 66 points followed by the Ichabods' 37 points ahead of Missouri Southern's 34 points and Nebraska-Kearney's 26.5 points.
