Ichabods pick up 2 NCAA All-American Awards on Day 1 of Indoor Championships

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track and field team wrapped up the first day of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships earning two first-team All-Americans as Braden Rose finished second in the weight throw and Alex Hart finished in a tie for seventh in the high jump. The final day of the championships will wrap up tomorrow in Pittsburg, Kan.
 
Braden Rose placed second at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships with a mark of 22.00m (72-02.75) coming on his first throw of the afternoon. Rose's second throw went 21.68 (71-01.50). By finishing second, Rose picked up eight team points for the Ichabod men's team. Rose entered the NCAA Championships seeded second after coming off the his second-place finish at the MIAA Indoor Championships after throwing the eighth-best mark in NCAA Division II history of 22.42m (73-06.75) that also set a school record in the process. Rose's second-place finish is the highest by an Ichabod men's track and field competitor at the NCAA Indoor Championships since 2022 when Connor Last finished second in the long jump. The All-American honor is Rose's fourth overall as he was also a first-team All-American in the discus in the 2023 outdoor championships and a second-team All-American at the outdoor championships in 2022 prior to earning second All-American honors in the hammer in 2023.
 
Alex Hart finished in a tie for seventh place in the women's high jump clearing 1.67m (5-05.75). She cleared 1.62m prior to going out at 1.72m (5-07.75). By finishing in a tie for seventh, Hart recorded 0.75 team points for the Ichabod women.
 
Connor Last finished 14th in the long jump with a mark of 6.99m (22-11.25) in his Ichabod men's school-record fifth NCAA Championship appearance.
 
In the women's weight throw, Adriel Holloway finished 14th in the event in her first NCAA championship appearance with a mark of 17.56m (57-07.50).
