BRANSON, Mo. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team opened its Branson Spring Break trip with a pair of wins improving to 19-8 on the season including a week-starting 2-0 win over No. 20-ranked McKendree. The Ichabods will be back in action on Wednesday facing No. 7-ranked Augustana and Northern State.
Game 1 – WU 2, McKendree 0
Sadie Walker tossed a five-hit complete-game shutout and the Ichabods used RBI doubles from
Alexis Tanguma and
Jaden LaBarge leading the 2-0 win.
Both of the Ichabod runs came in the second inning.
Walker struck out five holding the Bearcats to three hits over the contest's final five innings, moving to 9-3 on the season.
LaBarge and
Makenzie Sais each had two hits in the contest.
Game 2 – WU 5, Minot State 1
For the second time this season, the Ichabods picked up a win over Minot State jumping out to a 3-0 lead after their first at bat.
Erin Boles led off the inning with a home run and after a double by
Ellington Hogle and a single from
Kaylee Wagner Kate Ediger's sac fly scored Hogle. LaBarge drove in a run with a single of her own.
Minot State got on the board with a solo run in the fourth, but the Ichabods scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings going up 5-1. In the fifth, Sais led off the inning with a single and then she scored on Hogle's double. In the sixth,
Kate Dolan singled driving in LaBarge for the Ichabods' fifth run of the game.
Jenna Sprague picked up the win improving to 6-2 on the season and Tanguma recorded the save pitching the final three innings.
Hogle and Sais each had two hits in the win.
