BUCKEYE, Ariz. -- The Washburn Ichabod men's golf team sits in 6th place after the first round of the Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate with a team score of 297. The Ichabods will play the second round at Verrado Golf Club on Monday, with Washburn players teeing off starting at 1:06 p.m. CDT.
Marco Anderson led the Ichabods on the day, shooting an even-par 72 to sit in a tie for 15th place. Anderson paced Washburn with four birdies made in the round.
Blake Saffell is tied for 18th after a 2-over 74. Saffell made three birdies in his round, with two coming in his final four holes.
Zach Vandervoort sits in a tie for 23rd place after a 3-over 75. Vandervoort made three birdies in the round, including back-to-back birdies to open the back nine.
James Hill finished the first round tied for 33rd after a 4-over 76. Hill recorded scores above par on only three holes on the day.
Lane Workman is tied for 71st after an 11-over 83. Workman made birdie at the par-5, 588-yard 15th hole, tied for the longest hole on the course.
Playing as an individual, Quinn Earwood sits in a tie for 23rd place after a 3-over 75. Earwood played the par-3 holes at 1-under for the day, good for 3rd in the field in the statistic.
Washburn trails 5th-place Fort Lewis by one shot entering the second round, while holding a four-stroke advantage over 7th-place Western Washington. Colorado Christian, the top-ranked team in Division II, leads the competition with a team score of 277.
