LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Washburn Men's Golf Team sits in a tie for 15th after Day 1 of the NCAA National Championships.
"We know we left some shots out there today," said Washburn Head Coach
Ronnie McHenry. "There were stretches where we played really well, but we weren't consistent enough from top to bottom to put together the round we wanted. Fratzel gave us a great round, and we had some big moments throughout the day, but at this stage, you have to be sharper. The good thing is there's still a lot of golf left, and this group is ready to respond tomorrow."
The Ichabods were the first team out today, and are six shots out of a spot to move on to the match play portion of the National Championships. Washburn shot 5-over as a team in Round 1.
Freshman
Jacob Fratzel shot an opening round 70 (-2). He made seven birdies on the day, with six of them on the back nine. He currently sits tied for 19th heading into day 2.
