TOPEKA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod softball team snapped not one but two streaks in its return to Gahnstrom Field in the first time in over a month as the squad ended its own three-game losing streak while snapping Fort Hays State's nine-game streak on Friday afternoon. The Ichabods return to action hosting Nebraska-Kearney in another MIAA twin bill on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
Game 1 – WU 3, FHSU 2
The Tigers took advantage of an Ichabod error in the top of the first scoring an unearned run going up 1-0 and the score remained the same until the top of the fifth when the Tigers added another run going up 2-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Washburn tied the score on a sac fly from
Ellington Hogle that sent
Ashlyn Gaughan home as she entered as a pinch runner for
Dalaney Anderson who started the inning with a walk. Washburn's second run came on a double to right center by
Kaylee Wagner scoring
Makenzie Sais who reached on an error.
The score remained tied until Washburn's next at bat in the bottom of the sixth when
Alexis Tanguma led off the inning with a solo homer to left field as the Ichabods went up 3-2.
In the seventh, the Tigers got their first two batters on base on a pair of singles, but
Jenna Sprague replaced Tanguma to retire the final two Tigers picking up the save and preserving the win for Tanguma.
Five different Ichabods (24-13, 6-4 MIAA) had hits for Washburn in the opener. Tanguma pitched 6 1/3 innings improving to 2-0 and Sprague collected her second save of the season.
Game 2 – WU 3, FHSU 0

Sadie Walker tossed a complete-game shutout leading Washburn to the sweep over the Tigers. Walker scattered five hits in the win striking out three improving to 9-2 on the season.
In the second, Tanguma singled and
Jaden LaBarge walked and then
Mariah Wheeler walked to load the bases. A fly out by
Kate Ediger was thought to score an Ichabod run, but on appeal the Washburn runner left too soon for a double play by the Tigers.
Maddie McGee then doubled in the next at bat scoring both Wheeler and LaBarge as Washburn went up 2-0.
The Ichabods added a solo run on a homer by Tanguma as Washburn went up 3-0. Walker held the Tigers to two hits the rest of the way as the Ichabods wrapped up the sweep.
Tanguma finished with three of the Ichabods' six hits in the nightcap.
