Women's golf 5th after first round of MIAA Championships

KEARNEY, Neb. -- The Washburn Ichabod women's golf team sits in 5th place with a team score of 317 in the first round of the MIAA Golf Championships on Sunday. The Ichabods, making their program debut in the tournament, will continue action from Meadowlark Hills Golf Club on Monday starting at 8:30 a.m. 

Angelina Borg-Malec and Susana Granados Carrion shared top honors for the Ichabods, each posting a first-round, 7-over 78 to sit in a tie for 12th place. Borg-Malec made birdie on the par-3, 125-yard 15th hole, while Granados Carrion birdied the par-5, 458-yard 12th hole. 

Keira Ronsick finished the day in a tie for 24th after a round of 80. Ronsick is tied for 10th in the field with a par-4 scoring average of 4.45. 

Allie Sullivan sits in a tie for 28th place after a first-round 81. Sullivan made birdie at the par-4, 355-yard 16th hole. 

Aliyah North finished the morning with a round of 83, good for a tie for 39th place. North did not record a score worse than bogey on any hole on the day. 

Playing as an individual, Lois Deeter sits in a tie for 59th place after the first round after a round of 88. Deeter posted scores of 44 on both the front and back nines. 

The Ichabods enter the second day of competition trailing 4th-place Arkansas-Fort Smith by two strokes, while holding a two-shot lead on 6th-place Northwest Missouri State. 

No. 26-ranked Rogers State leads the tournament with a team score of 310, putting them one stroke ahead of No. 22 Central Missouri.
