COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Washburn Ichabod women's cross country team turned in one of its strongest performances in program history, capturing the team title in the 6K Open division at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia, Mo. The Ichabods scored 81 team points to edge 20 other teams including four NCAA Division I programs and MIAA foes Central Missouri and Newman.
Senior
Kyla Lochtefeld led the way in her Ichabod debut, running to a fourth-place individual finish in 22:08.0. Freshman
Jordyn Cleary finished 21st in 22:45.2 and senior
Lexie Fontaine, placed 29th at 22:55.1 giving the Ichabods three finishers inside the top 30.
Junior
Jolie Evans placed 34th in a time of 23:00.6 and junior
Grace Collins sealed the Ichabods' win with a 38th overall finish in a time of 23:10.8 wrapping up Washburn's five scoring runners.
Freshman
Rylee Ismert ran 23:31.1 for 54th, while sophomore
Riley Britton finished in 24:17.1 for 92nd. Junior
Katy Menke added a 109th-place time of 24:44.9, and sophomore
Riley Ammons crossed in 26:09.0 in 161st overall and freshman
Ebba Wetterberg did not finish.
The Ichabods' 81-point total marked one of the lowest in program history topping Southeast Missouri (85 points), Maryville (120), Indiana Wesleyan (144) and Ouachita Baptist rounded out the top five with 150 points.
The team title was the Ichabods' first since the season-opening win at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic on the three-mile track topping 12 other teams.
