SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Washburn fell behind early and wasn't able to complete a comeback as they fell 12-8 to Drury on Saturday afternoon. The Ichabods will now play the final game of the Drury Invitational on Sunday beginning at 10:30 a.m. due to weather in the area.
Just five batters into the game it was 2-0 Washburn (6-8) after Jackson Mervosh singled and Brandt Beeby doubled. Easton Wasinger hit an RBI ground out and Levi Risenhoover followed with a double that each plated a run.
Kai Bennett got the start and was in control through the first two innings, striking out four in a pair of scoreless frames. A triple by Beeby in the third allowed Wasinger to got a grounder on the right side and bring in another run. In the bottom of the third the Panthers got going at the plate, stringing together four hits and taking advantage of an error in the field to score six runs.
Washburn answered back with one as Chase Littrell hit an RBI grounder to score Jack Borgmann who was hit to lead off the inning. Another error extended the inning in the fifth as Drury hit a bases-clearing double with two outs and followed with another double that made it 10-4 after five.
The Panthers scored two more in the sixth on four hits. The score remained the same until the eighth. Mervosh and Beeby each hit singles to lead off, with one out Risenhoover scored both with a single. Owen Laessig lifted a sacrifice fly that scored a third run after an error put Risenhoover in position.
Ian Luce led off the ninth with a single and Mervosh scored him with a double but that was all the Ichabods could manage as they fell 12-8.
Drury led 12-10 in hits and also worked seven walks with just three for Washburn. Five pitchers appeared for the Ichabods, combining for 12 strikeouts. Keegan McDonald tossed a pair of scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
At the plate both Jackson Mervosh and Brandt Beeby went 3-5. Levi Risenhoover went 2-4 while driving in a pair.
