Ichabods Finish Runner-Up at Firekeeper Open

MAYETTA, Kan. – The Washburn Men's Golf team wrapped up play at the Firekeeper Open with a strong overall showing at Firekeeper Golf Course & Resort.

"Another great week for our guys at our home tournament. Myles was great all rounds and the others fought till the end," said Ichabod Head Coach Ronnie McHenry. "This group is playing our best golf here at the end of the season when it matters most. Now we head into the postseason with momentum and a chance to keep marking off our team goals. I will take this team against anyone out there."

The Ichabods were led by Myles Tarvin, who finished 2nd after he lost a playoff to Central Oklahoma's Rhett Hughes at 6-under par for the tournament. Tarvin followed up his opening rounds with a final round 1-over 73 to take second.

Freshman Jacob Fratzel finished 10th at 2-over par after closing with an even-par 72.

South African Marco Anderson placed 20th at 4-over par, shooting a final round 73.

Blake Buessing finished 22nd at 5-over par after an even-par 72 in the final round.

Brody Scafe rounded out the team, placing 55th at 11-over par.

Washburn's B team also competed well as they beat #15 West Texas A&M, highlighted by Michael Matteucci, who finished 10th at 2-over par after a final round 73.
Jake Kolich placed 20th at 4-over par, while Zachary Haydamack finished 22nd at 5-over.

Jake Conley and Quinn Earwood rounded up the "B" squad, finishing at 11-over and 12-over, respectively.

Competing as individuals, Drew Buchman led the group with a 41st-place finish at 8-over par. Maddix Shook and James Hill both finished at 19-over, while Zach Vandervoort rounded out the group.

UP NEXT
The Ichabods head to Jefferson City, Mo., next week, April 13-15, for the MIAA Championships at Jefferson City Country Club.
