WICHITA, Kan. – The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track and field teams turned in a strong showing Friday at the Wichita State Shocker Open, earning multiple top-five finishes, personal records and NCAA provisional qualifying marks. The Ichabods are scheduled to compete in another last chance qualifier meet at Pittsburg State on Saturday.
In the 1500m,
Shane Mullen placed third in a personal-best time of 3:55.87, placing among the meet's top distance runners.
Hurdle events provided major highlights as
Gustavo Cadan placed sixth in the 110m hurdles, clocking a PR of 14.28 for an NCAA provisional mark.
Jake Muller followed suit in the 400m hurdles, earning third place with a time of 52.45, another NCAA provisional qualifier.
The 4x100m relay team of
Tayveon Simms,
Peyton Holmes,
Javier Lopez and
Ja'Laveyn January turned in a strong performance, finishing second overall in 40.76.
In the field events,
Slade Smith delivered one of the top performances of the meet in the high jump, clearing 2.11m (6-11.00) to finish second. His mark was a personal best and secured an NCAA provisional qualification.
Matthew Heckman added a sixth-place finish, clearing 2.01m (6-07.25).
The pole vault saw a cluster of top finishes for Washburn, with
Logan Schwab and
Eli Strawn tying for fifth and sixth, respectively, both clearing 4.82m (15-09.75).
Adam Wooldridge also cleared the same height to place seventh, while
Caden Caplinger finished with a mark of 4.67m (15-03.75).
Ransford Nti earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump, recording a best leap of 14.51m (47-07.25).
On the track,
Seth Motes (12th, 2:02.41),
Layne Whisler (13th, 2:02.63) and
Ryan Rochford (18th, 2:04.92) competed in the 800m.
The women's team also posted several standout performances, led by speed events and strong throws.
Isabella Garcia had a busy day, finishing third in the 100m with a personal-best time of 11.91. Garcia also competed in the 400m, earning fourth place in 57.77, while
Kereser Augustin placed second in the same event with a time of 55.66.
The 4x100m relay team of
Lyric Reid,
Maya Pattison,
Mellanie Neudinger and
Layla Lerus captured first place, crossing the line in 45.89 to earn an NCAA provisional mark.
In the field events, Neudinger claimed the long jump title, winning the event with a jump of 5.45m (17-10.50).
Theresa Osei followed with a strong showing in the triple jump, placing second at 11.66m (38-03.00).
In the jumps,
Molly Worley earned fourth place in the high jump, clearing 1.56m (5-01.50), while
Reagan Housley finished seventh in the pole vault with a mark of 3.54m (11-07.25).
The throwing events were highlighted by
Adriel Holloway, who placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 54.21m (177-10), earning an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.
Jadyn Falley added a fourth-place finish with a throw of 49.22m (161-02).
